00:00 hello Joe it's like a dashing pose hey
00:19 Greg long time no talk man how's it going how's fatherhood of two treating
00:25 you every day is an adventure
00:33 spoken like adventure right yeah totally
00:41 good all in all are good yeah yeah everything's been going great you know
00:49 the little guy is getting big and strong and starting to giggle nice love the
00:56 baby giggles man yeah yeah it's starting to get a started tickling him sighs now he's not really getting into his guys
01:03 funny he doesn't like hiccups and then they had got to put him to sleep so it's
01:09 kind of like look I just discovered
01:15 something but uh yeah it's it's funny he's he's he's a very smiley baby so
01:22 makes things a little bit easier awesome yeah how's everything with you
01:27 dude busy as heck and uh yeah I'm pretty happy things things are cooking along
01:33 pretty good I've been been working my tail off for for the entire summer and
01:39 you know I've been really trying to ramp up like all the email engagement that
01:44 I've been doing and doing deals of the week and yeah it's been a lot of work but but yeah I'm really enjoying it and
01:52 I think it's starting to pay off so yeah all the hard work starting to pay off on
01:57 I like like to see that yeah you see a lot of conversions yeah you know decent
02:02 amount um you know get a lot of new customers and and whatnot so they always like to you know obviously you know a
02:08 deal as always uh people always like a deal right so if it's a older they haven't seen or used it and it's
02:15 not only just the deal but it's also kind of like um you know re advertising
02:20 something that's still tried and true but maybe not you know brand spankin new you don't I mean so just because
02:27 something wasn't released within the past three or four months I mean doesn't mean it isn't good you know I mean so
02:32 it's just kind of you know putting the eyes and attention on things that people might not look at otherwise right right
02:40 it's cool yeah yeah I know our time for that yeah I'm trying it's still trying
02:46 to work on the website I finally bit the bullet hired a found a copy right here so we're like three through like three
02:54 pages or so the copywriter friend of a
03:02 friend this gentleman I work with or had known for a long time out in the UK that
03:10 does graphic design UI icons that kind of stuff mm-hmm I've known him he did the like
03:20 Weaver picks like one in two icons you
03:27 used to work at like shiny frog be back hey remember that company nope okay they
03:35 did like dilly bars until I died oh yes yes okay that yeah yeah I know deli yeah
03:42 I remember deli bar yeah yeah that was sweet icon actually when I remember you
03:49 know that frog yeah yeah wasn't they then they redid one it wasn't like a like a candy bar for deli bar it was
03:56 like a was like a candy bar thing wasn't it yeah yeah met him a long time ago
04:03 stayed in touch and he introduced me to someone he just worked with recently so
04:08 yeah looking through it sweet Oh three paid three pages done probably about
04:14 half a dozen so more to go cool I can't can't really can't wait to
04:19 get it done that's for sure yeah that's not my to-do list as well you know I coach robotics for my son's robotics
04:25 high school team and one of the dads there is trying to start a copyright business on the side
04:32 because he kind of wants a a change of pace he's currently like a manager at a homeowners association or something like
04:38 that and so he's been studying copywriting and wants to try to go freelance so he offered his voluntas
04:44 services to build his portfolio for me so um we're gonna we're gonna be chatting it up once school starts when I
04:52 see him so uh yeah I'm excited for that that's cool that's cool that's um so I
04:59 don't work it's totally but if I find this copywriters actually really happy
05:04 with her so far and it's not just the words on the paper kind of person but
05:11 things like things through thee the goals and the meanings and and the tone
05:18 and the branding you know not just not just filling filling in it with
05:25 buzzwords no yeah yeah there's a great book that I read this year called a
05:30 story brand from Donald Donald Miller that was really really good um not sure
05:37 if you want to go down that rabbit hole but it was a great book totally recommend it so if anyone out there
05:43 wants to learn about branding and copywriting and and all that stuff story brand is uh really really good cool okay
05:53 check that out sometime yeah it's a it's a fun experiment I mean it didn't I
05:59 study the best thing about it is the orthogonal thinking you know I just you
06:04 write code so much that sometimes your brain needs to do something that's just different you know totally glowing so so
06:14 here you got a UH well first off tomorrow is a big day at least uh you know it'll be the past by
06:21 the attendance is published yes but as of as of our recording tomorrow is
06:26 stacking you oh oh sorry did I did I spoil the do you have your ante it's
06:32 gonna tell you drool
06:38 tulok totally freaking these days Joe I know here okay here it's tax day there
06:48 we go III put in the drumroll there we go area I made up for it alright so check out
06:55 our previous episode episode number 31 it was our news episode 31 check it out
07:01 we Mia and Greg went over all of the our favorite features and stacks for that
07:07 show is still 100% relevant so yeah check out episode 31 so Weaver radio.com
07:13 slash 31 and listen to that show if you want to hear about our favorite features
07:20 and stacks for but I'm super stoked for stacks it's I've been pushing Isaiah
07:25 they're like dude kit release it release it release it and finally yesterday he gave he gave us stacks to have two days
07:32 notice thanks Isaiah right give us two days notice but we're I'm finally happy
07:40 that stacks for it's here for everybody so go out and buy it it will
07:45 revolutionize the way you build web sites just like stacks three did so yeah
07:51 huge congrats to I say I know you've been working long and hard on that so you know glad to glad to see you finally
07:57 crossing the finish line that's the often the hardest part you know getting that final release out the door yep so
08:04 congrats so celebrate go out and buy some meds Isaiah and have a couple weeks off are
08:09 on us on Joe that one's on your on me on
08:18 me he'll buy you go buy you a round of your favorite favorite drug of choice
08:31 I'll even throw a bottle of scotch in there too right yeah right
08:39 didn't say kill them I was probably
08:44 wonder the invoice interesting lessons I learned is you know give this release and feel like you finally cross the finish line as they know that's nothing
08:50 and that's like the 30-yard line you get like yeah absolutely right you get all
08:55 the inquiries after that all the follow-ups all the questions it's like it's not done so you release it yeah no
09:03 yeah stacks fours had a pretty long beta I think I've had it since December or
09:10 January so like seven or eight months right and yeah I mean I think it's pretty stable
09:16 but I know just like anything when the masses get it like I know there's probably some some sort of nasty bug you
09:23 or gonna be like how the heck did I not find this in seven months I don't know but that's just the way the cookie
09:30 crumbles with death right you know yeah yeah you try your best for the best plan
09:36 for the worst yep so next week though I actually I got as a oh he's gonna come on my live show we got to get around the
09:44 podcast to I guess we should probably do a podcast a show with him - all chat with him about that - so we can have a I
09:50 guess I won't label it as a three-way but yeah we will we'll have a three-way
09:55 conversation with Isaiah this this pot guys just like - hello we have such high
10:07 ambitions to start this deteriorated pretty quickly man do I have to take the
10:16 up for over 18 crowd on this podcast episode or what man sorry about that everybody
10:22 water Greg it's not vodka okay okay well
10:28 night now we wouldn't have to mm-hmm I guess those was 31 episodes or years due
10:34 to you when it was the UH necking so
10:41 yeah next week Wednesday's if you haven't been watching my live streams every week I did it
10:47 pretty cool and today actually on affinity designer and how to do like symbols and infinity and stuff is kind
10:54 of cool I fumbled through it it was something I wanted to learn so I figured why not do it live and watch everyone
10:59 watch me learn it - and that was kind of interesting yeah but yeah next week I am I say is
11:07 gonna be on we'll be talking about stacks for be pretty interesting so I haven't added another person on my live
11:13 stream since I think like week two so yeah it's been that'll be fun and yeah
11:20 we'll have to get him on the podcast too and speaking of next big things is uh so
11:25 I have to give give a little bit of heck to Isaiah because I was planning on
11:30 tomorrow I was gonna launch tickets for the conference alright and but then I
11:36 say it was like I'm launching sacs for so I'm gonna be delaying I know even in my email that I sent out over the
11:42 weekend I said tickets are gonna go live August 1st well I don't wanna I don't want to
11:47 squash on Isaiah's launch day so I will delay those ticket sales until next week
11:53 probably till August 7th so August 7th
11:58 make sure that yeah I'll send an email out right but ticket sales for the
12:03 Weaver space conference I'm actually gonna call it the Weaver space summit this year I mean I'm gonna I'm gonna rename it
12:09 from conference to summit and so this though so classy again now and we really
12:17 confused here with yep Weaver space
12:22 summit Greg and and yeah so that'll be fun i I've been working pretty hard the
12:28 past few weeks on a couple things so I have an entirely new platform that I'm
12:33 running the conference on and it is a platform made just for virtual
12:39 conferences and it's a pretty new service so there there's obviously some
12:44 some monkeys in the in the works in the wrenches but I've been been working hard on getting the site up because it kind
12:52 of like Auto generates the site for the conference and everything and has a whole back end and manage speakers and talks and all kinds of other stuff so
12:59 it's good um but there are some some quirks to the system so it's even right
13:06 now it's not exactly how I wish it would be but it's good enough to to get out to the world and and get started so yeah
13:13 I'm really excited I also finally got my last speaker um this weekend so
13:21 yeah I up my last speaker actually I have I have two more speakers than I have slots so I'm probably gonna squeeze
13:28 in either those those extra speakers or I'm not sure what we'll do but um we'll
13:33 squeeze them all in I 17 speakers originally had 15 slots but I have so many great things that I can't I can't
13:40 pick any of them to get rid of so we're going all out we're keeping everybody so
13:46 yeah obviously the the headliner extraordinaire here is gonna be Greg cuz he has a super secret talk that he's not
13:53 even gonna tell us yet what it's about yeah so I'm really excited to hear what
13:59 Greg's talk is gonna be about yeah yeah you want to hear you want a hint Joe join a teaser Oh
14:04 Oh a teaser ooh yes you ready he's me Greg I have no bleeping idea hey keeping
14:18 a PG here he nice so I could I said I said believe in ya okay um so nice oh
14:25 yeah I hear all just run through the speaker list really quick we got um Jason Resnick is gonna be back he's talked a couple times already
14:31 um he's always been a favorite so he's gonna be talking about how to do warm outreach and kind of word-of-mouth and
14:36 how to get new customers especially for the introverted people so they a la a
14:43 lot of people tend to be kind of introverted and they're not really outgoing marketing type so he's going to
14:49 talk about how to do some warm outreach especially if you're introverted so that'll be fun
14:55 I have a relatively new friend of mine that I've gotten to know over this past you know I don't know maybe about a year
15:01 I've known him now is he's gonna be talking about a video on the web and he
15:07 is like a master video editor like he does commercials for like major cruise lines and stuff like that and he's like
15:13 a final cut wizard and he's gonna be talking about I haven't quite zoned in
15:18 exactly on what what he's gonna be talking about on video I want to make sure I sent out a survey with some
15:24 people talking about asking him what they want for videos so yeah he's gonna be talking about something for a video
15:30 for the web obviously we have Isaiah's talking about stacks for Philip Van Dusen he's back
15:36 again he was here a couple years ago he's gonna be talking about how to some of the struggles of going full time so
15:43 like a lot of us haven't you know day jobs and we're trying to become a full time freelancer so he's gonna be talking
15:49 about that transition and things that we need to do to do that I have to kind of
15:56 two really big names in the SEO world first is a Brendan huffard he recently
16:04 did he's been really doing this series lately on Twitter called like 100 days of SEO that's been getting a lot of
16:10 traffic and retweets on Twitter which is pretty cool and he's got a great YouTube channel as well and then the big one I
16:18 have Sam o from 8 reps um HR F's comm is probably like the best
16:25 SEO you know tool out there and by far their YouTube channel Sam o runs their
16:31 YouTube channel and he has the best videos on SEO out there so I was really
16:37 stoked I met him at a conference I went to in Vegas it past March and um he
16:43 agreed to speak I I don't know why man I can't believe I was little floored when
16:48 he agreed to speak so I'm pretty excited about that um sounds like a pretty full
16:54 sirloin yeah yeah making me sweat here Joe and another fan favorite is
17:02 Elizabeth Martinez is back right so um she always kills it she's even talking
17:09 about what your clients really want and so yeah and my last speaker I I assigned
17:16 I got this weekend and another really big name that some of you might not be aware of her name is sherry walling and
17:22 um her she's the better half of rob walling who started drip drip calm it
17:30 was a pretty big email marketing campaign uh software but she is a she's
17:36 PhD and she's the psychologist for entrepreneurs and she's gonna be talking about kind of like handling you know
17:43 mental health and burn for people that are you know freelancers or rut trying to start their own
17:48 business and stuff like that so um I'm really excited about her I actually totally didn't think I'd be able to land
17:54 her as a speaking gig um check out her book it's like happens or something
18:01 like that it's really great book and then her podcast is called Zen founder and that's really great she talks about
18:08 a lot to a lot of entrepreneurs and founders and she talks about um you know
18:13 their mental state and struggles that they go through and gives them help straight up on the podcast so check her
18:18 out she's really cool I'm really excited about that so I won't go through all the rest of the speakers but we have
18:23 seventeen of them really excited about it and also here's another fun fact um I have six female speakers this year Greg
18:32 six so I'm pretty excited about that um I asked you know for the ladies to
18:38 step up and a volunteer to speak and we have six female speakers this year
18:43 really excited about that before we only had Elizabeth we love you Elizabeth you
18:50 do a great job but I'm glad that we have more representation and on top of that
18:55 we have eight new speakers so eight new speakers six total female speakers I'm really excited um yeah I think it's a
19:03 great lineup and I can't wait to uh for everyone do would join it's gonna be a lot of fun yeah yeah that's pretty cool um you've
19:10 really you know kept with the kept with the conference stuff and made it into something that's really diverse I mean
19:17 it's you know glad I got me part of it and if anybody has anything that really
19:24 want to hear about please let me know I'm up to my elbows and in the toddler
19:29 Anna and a three-month-old right now but you know how did teacher three-month-old Rockford Weaver had a teacher how to
19:37 teach how to teach yeah that would be a video series right yeah also may end up
19:44 calling a protective services on me but but isn't that maybe child labor at that
19:51 point yeah but no seriously if if
19:57 anybody doesn't have anything that they really want to have an itch they really want some more clarification on I'd be
20:04 happy to dive into it you know I think we can also do we also do maybe a live show or something like that I think we
20:10 do live show last year yeah yeah we wrapped up the conference with a live show yeah oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
20:16 that was fun though that was fun cuz we did he get - we did it - like rehash our favorite parts and
20:21 yep rise a bunch of things for people and no I don't know we can we can talk
20:27 about it sooner yep so but if anybody has any ideas feel free feedback it Wever radio calm yes
20:34 feedback at Weaver radio calm thanks for remembering yeah we get so many emails there it's so
20:40 hard to sift through I know man I you know I get flooded and it's just like how do I deal with it it's like my support inbox you know like that's so
20:47 many emails I just can't okay so please please limit yourself to anywhere under 12 to 15 because we get
20:55 so many I don't think we'd handle more than that oh yeah thanks I shipped a
21:10 couple minor updates for forms plus and I gridiron mostly bug fixes but I mean
21:16 anxious to get out a new a new forms plus update I'm adding adding a mailgun
21:24 support and mailgun is a trend yeah what's mail done it reg you oh that was
21:30 so staged that was so steep it's a transactional
21:36 email service helps with email deliver email deliverability it lets you do
21:43 tracking it does automatic tracking and click opens and stuff like that so you
21:48 can know that your message made it to the recipients mailbox you know they opened it and you know
21:55 they clicked any links in it forms bus already supports a service
22:00 called postmark which is very similar so I'm adding a second service called mailgun so they're very inexpensive
22:06 services but I find it be highly valuable aspects especially for my contact forms I use those be more
22:14 valuable than me just using the the mail built into my server into my host well
22:20 let's say you're in a shared hosting environment you're your host that server
22:25 gets blacklisted and all mail from that server gets blocked so now all your
22:31 messages from your contact form you never get them the recipient never gets them you know you can never lost a lost
22:37 lead I lost conversion you know you can never get there the information from
22:43 them or you know something something I
22:49 lost my train of thought there versus I got my wife just walked by my wife looks
22:55 bite you it takes your breath away yeah yeah yes that's right your that you can
23:01 hear that but you know that kind of thing so and then so it helped with the
23:07 email delivery that's that's the email delivery part if you're serving is blacklisted you get blocked you get rate limited all those kind of things and
23:13 then all the tracking so if you have a contact that form submission and you
23:18 send a receipt to that person you know you can know that they've received it that that email didn't bounce that's a
23:24 valid email that they opened it that they clicked a message all that kind of good stuff so very transparent very um
23:32 for very inexpensive you know I recommend it to people who are looking for you know a more
23:39 professional kind of kind of solution so what do you use to use something like
23:46 that trail for my contact forms um you know III just linked my email address
23:52 and yeah it just opens up the default email client on your machine and so yeah
23:58 I I don't even have a contact form on Weaver space at all so yeah I just I
24:04 just kept it super simple mm-hmm yeah use it all the email sent picture
24:11 dog are tracked through post to postmark so you know especially for invoices for
24:19 receipts all that kind of stuff it's I find it really really helpful really important because you know I could say
24:26 all this person's email bounced and I've actually had this before someone
24:31 actually had it I was sticky finger and put a number after the.com
24:38 so clearly you know you can see the typo in their email address so I just went in corrected it REE REE sent down their
24:44 login details kind of deal so okay you know I wouldn't I wouldn't have caught it if I didn't get the
24:50 bounce on a vacation so yeah I don't I like it I use it for all my contact
24:56 forms on my billing area stuff so you know four bounces I just um I don't know if it's still a deal on appSumo but um
25:02 there's a deal on appSumo on this service called clear out and it is an
25:08 email validation service so for about
25:14 150 I bought 1.5 million what's it
25:21 called validations and it was a it's basically 50 bucks per 500,000
25:27 validations so um I bought 1.5 million of them figured that'll last me quite a while and yeah it's currently on appSumo
25:36 what I did was I noticed that my you know over the past few months like my my
25:42 accounts of my active subscribers to my emails started going down so I did a couple things first off I I created a
25:49 subscriptions page on my website that lets you lets people selectively unsubscribe from particular emails so I
25:56 essentially have four different types of emails three happen every week and one is like big announcements so you can
26:03 subscribe or unsubscribe from every single type of email individually which is cool so that was one thing I did the
26:10 next thing I did just this week actually on Monday is I got this clear out thing then I put my entire email list through
26:17 and it found like I was like 600 and something emails that were actually not
26:23 valid so that they would have bounced so so yeah I removed about 600 emails from my list
26:30 this week because those particular email addresses weren't valid and I I did that
26:36 through this clear-out service yeah I've seen stuff like that
26:41 I've heard that this mixed results on the effectiveness of those for some like
26:48 lower like yeah who like the accuracy
26:53 I'm the guy who in the hot meals may not be so well but I've seen something that I think that's a good idea especially if
26:59 you have this bulk email list you don't want to send out a bunch of to a bunch of invalid email addresses so yeah
27:06 that's good because yeah because if you send out too many if your bounce rate is too high then you start getting you know
27:12 flagged as a potential spammer and stuff like that my percentage is pretty low it's like I think it has to be it has to
27:18 be below 3% I think which I'm way below that but um anyway yeah so I I thought
27:23 that was a good idea and it was pretty cheap and the reason if you're wondering why about 1.5 million is and actually
27:29 I'm not sure I even talked to you since this happened Greg you know I took over the I'm the new like kind of tech lead
27:36 for foundation the actual open-source project for foundation and one of the
27:41 one of the mate the major costs for that
27:47 software is its email list and so thurb was spending like thousands of dollars
27:53 every month on maintaining um a three hundred thousand person email list and
28:00 so at first I was like what am I gonna do about that oh sorry excuse my French but so you know three with 300
28:09 thousand emails I I thought I would I subscribe to this service so and I
28:14 bought so many so that I can actually validate that entire list before I upload it and try to use it as an active
28:22 email list a marketing list for on the open source project that's not for any my rat beaver stuff so yeah that's
28:31 pretty much why why I bought so many was to validate that $300,000 or three
28:37 hundred thousand email which is kind of nuts like that's like ginormous so big so so tell me more
28:45 about this so now you're you're working as a consultant for the foundation company their company - I do dessert so
28:53 serve started foundation as a framework and basically they they still want to be
28:58 involved but they don't want to own and manage the project anymore so I'm I'm
29:04 taking ownership and management responsibilities for the for the the
29:10 actual framework so I'm currently transitioning everything over off the ZURB servers and onto either mine or
29:17 some other hosting that I've you know secured so like for example that net
29:25 laughs I you've probably heard a net laughs I they have they have an open-source package so I get free
29:32 hosting for the entire Foundation website um because it's open source so
29:38 net liffe I offers that which is kind of cool because they have like the whole git integration and already have it working so we got a new domain we're
29:46 gonna set up a a nonprofit organization actually for it and yeah so it's pretty
29:51 big deal um you know I'm gonna be the new um you know head maintainer or whatever you want to call it head
29:57 pooh-bah for the entire open-source framework obviously there are I'm not going to be
30:03 the only developer beyond it there are what we call Yeti nots um you know behind Foundation and there's about a
30:10 dozen of them or so that are our core contributors to the actual code so I'll
30:15 probably be doing more management and marketing for the framework then I will actual code but obviously since um you
30:23 know I that code is core to my business as well I'm gonna be highly active in
30:30 that so I'm really excited for it it's gonna be uh like I said we're I'm right in the thick of trying to transition
30:36 everything huge project the biggest thing I've ever managed or done so it'll
30:41 take a while to move everything over and till it's like it fully integrated into my day-to-day life but but yeah it's a
