About Stacks Guru

Stacks Guru is born from the need to search the vast number of videos out there on stacks built for Stacks Pro and the Stacks 5 plugin for Rapidweaver.

We have scraped over 500 videos to get the transcripts for each in order to make the spoken word searchable.

00:06 well hello everybody this is Joe workman
00:09 and today I would like to show you the
00:11 new duck duck search stack the duck duck
00:14 search stack is definitely the easiest
00:16 and most private way to add search to
00:19 your rapidweaver websites it's true that
00:21 sometimes the best products are the ones
00:23 that you develop for yourself and here
00:25 we are on my new documentation portal
00:27 and I wanted to build a search
00:29 functionality for my my site of course
00:32 this is all built with rapidweaver and I
00:34 also recently started using a new search
00:36 engine called DuckDuckGo now there are
00:39 some things that are really great about
00:40 DuckDuckGo that I'm not going to go into
00:42 right now it's privacy and a whole bunch
00:44 of other cool stuff and I thought it
00:46 would be really interesting to actually
00:47 build a stack using duckduckgo search
00:50 engine so if we have a look at our
00:52 sidebar here well notice that we have a
00:54 nice search box that we can then search
00:57 our site so let's go ahead and search
00:58 for something now what will notice is
01:04 that a new tab is opened up with all of
01:07 our search results on duckduckgo com now
01:11 another thing that you will notice is
01:13 that the search results not only show
01:15 results from my documentation portal but
01:18 they also show results from my main
01:20 website this is because duck duck search
01:24 allows you to search multiple websites
01:25 in the same search query now all the
01:29 color styling that you see here on your
01:31 search results page is completely
01:33 customizable this allows us to curtail
01:35 the search results page to match the
01:38 color scheme of our rapidweaver website
01:40 now let's jump in and see how easy it is
01:43 to configure duck duck search so here
01:47 we'll see i added the duck duck search
01:48 stack to my rapidweaver project now
01:51 let's go through a really simple basic
01:53 implementation just to get you kick
01:55 started as you'll notice under the setup
01:59 options for duck duck search you have
02:01 sites now most of the time you're only
02:04 going to want to search one domain
02:06 however you can actually do a comma
02:09 delimited list of domains so that duck
02:11 duck search can search all of
02:13 those domains that you'd like just like
02:15 we did in our sample that I showed
02:17 earlier now most time you're going to
02:20 want to have region set to no region
02:22 that basically means it's going to
02:23 search globally however if you wanted to
02:26 say search of larger site let's say
02:28 Apple or Google or not Google but maybe
02:31 amazon and you want to limited and you
02:33 want to limit that search to a
02:34 particular country or region you can
02:38 definitely select the region and all
02:39 your results will be limited to sites
02:42 that are within that region okay but
02:45 chances are no region is going to be
02:47 fine for you pretty simple let's go
02:49 ahead and preview this so in terms of
02:51 basic setup really that's it we're done
02:53 uh we have a fully functional search
02:56 index now assuming that DuckDuckGo has
03:00 indexed our entire website if you do
03:03 need help on that check out some afaik
03:05 use on my documentation portal now
03:07 unfortunately if we try to actually do a
03:08 test search here it's not going to work
03:11 so if you type in a search term and
03:13 click enter rapidweaver isn't going to
03:16 allow that duck duck search page to open
03:18 up so I have built a preview mechanism
03:22 into the stack so that you can actually
03:24 preview what your results page is going
03:26 to look like let's have a look at that
03:30 so if we go to the bottom of the Duck
03:31 Duck search settings will see that we
03:33 have search results there are many
03:36 settings here and all of them should be
03:37 pretty self-explanatory now on the
03:40 bottom here we have color options for
03:43 pretty much everything the header the
03:45 text view our ELLs the background color
03:48 everything so this is where we can
03:51 really customize the search results page
03:54 to match the color scheme of our
03:56 rapidweaver website and to make it a
03:59 little bit easier for us i added a
04:01 preview search result setting at the
04:03 bottom so when you check this page and
04:06 you go back into your rapidweaver
04:09 preview mode you will notice that i have
04:11 added a basically an iframe into the
04:15 actual results page and this results
04:18 page that you're seeing here will be the
04:20 exact look and feel of what will happen
04:22 or what you will see when you search
04:24 live on your web
04:26 so you can go ahead and customize the
04:28 colors preview it and make sure that it
04:31 kind of looks and feels similar to the
04:34 colors of your own website and then you
04:37 can publish and be confident that
04:38 everything is going to look properly
04:40 just how you liked it now before you
04:42 actually publish this page you're going
04:44 to want to make sure that you turn off
04:45 the previous search results or that
04:48 sample search index will always be there
04:50 on your web page so you're not going to
04:52 want that so that's essentially it as
04:54 you see duck duck search is really easy
04:57 to implement and within minutes you'll
04:59 have your own custom search for your
05:02 rapidweaver website I really hope you
05:04 enjoy duck duck search and thanks for
05:07 watching bye bye
05:13 you
05:15 you"}]
