00:09 video we're going to be looking over the
00:11 total cms file and file depot features
00:14 right um they're pretty simple it's not
00:17 rocket science right especially if
00:19 you've seen how everything works for
00:21 images and you've watched a couple other
00:23 cms videos right
00:24 so um it's really simple let's jump in
00:27 and see how easy it is so here we are in
00:30 the total cms demo file and if you're
00:33 not familiar with what the content side
00:35 of the file and depot stacks are okay
00:38 it's just basically a way of listing a
00:40 file or a set or depot of files okay and
00:44 have simple download links uh for them
00:47 okay so for obviously for a file it's
00:49 going to be an individual file that will
00:52 always be named the same thing right
00:56 a great use case for this is if you want
00:58 to maintain a zip file or something of
01:00 that nature
01:01 you can easily just have a download to
01:04 that and then you can update that zip
01:06 file on the admin interface okay
01:08 now the file depot side it actually
01:11 respects the name of the file um that is
01:14 uploaded okay it does maybe a little bit
01:16 of massaging um getting rid of some
01:18 funky characters that could cause some
01:20 issues okay but basically the file name
01:23 is going to stay the same you can upload
01:25 any file that you want so as you see
01:27 here i have a mixture of files okay we
01:29 have pdfs and gifs and images and zip
01:32 files and text files okay
01:35 and the icons for those files
01:38 are customized based on the file that it
01:40 is okay so that's really great
01:42 um and then you can hover over these and
01:44 it'll download that particular file okay
01:47 there are options that we'll look at in
01:48 a second that actually allow you to
01:49 preview the file
01:51 for files that are supported to be
01:52 previewed and then on the admin side of
01:55 things on this page you'll notice we're
01:56 now on the admin page
01:58 and everything works very similarly to
02:01 how images and galleries work okay
02:04 drag and drop a new zip file here and
02:07 it'll dynamically be uploaded okay and
02:09 if you want to click on this link you
02:11 can actually get the download link
02:13 directly to that file and this path will
02:16 never change for this file it will
02:18 always be the same
02:19 okay
02:20 and same thing for depots you can upload
02:22 any file that you want and then you can
02:24 click on the link and you can get the
02:26 download link to that file and again
02:29 this url will not change just like it
02:31 does for the file stack
02:33 now for depots if you upload a file that
02:36 is exactly the same name as a file that
02:38 it already exists
02:40 it will replace that file okay so this
02:44 way you can update existing files in a
02:47 depot as long as it has the same exact
02:50 name as the one that already exists
02:53 so that pretty much does it for the
02:54 interface right it's pretty
02:56 straightforward especially if you've
02:57 used or looked at any of the image stuff
03:00 with the cms now let's jump into edit
03:02 mode
03:03 so here we are in edit mode and we'll
03:05 look at the total file download first
03:08 and what you'll notice is it's very
03:10 simple okay we have a cms id
03:13 which needs to be unique for this
03:14 particular file okay you have a
03:17 placeholder uh text that tells the
03:18 person what you actually want to have
03:21 there okay and then you have your file
03:23 type and there are tons of existing file
03:26 types that are supported okay um zip
03:29 word docs mp3s mp4s right
03:33 this is a great way to manage a specific
03:36 file that you want to maintain okay
03:40 maybe it's not a download maybe it's a
03:43 mp4 file that you want to use to manage
03:46 inside of a
03:47 html5 video stack okay or things of that
03:50 nature right
03:51 so for files it could be used more than
03:54 just for downloads
03:57 and then on the depot side it looks
04:00 very similar as well we have our cms id
04:03 we have our placeholder text and
04:05 similarly to image galleries we have a
04:07 max height which defines the max height
04:10 that this particular area will use up in
04:12 the admin so if there are
04:15 more files that take up 500 pixel height
04:18 it'll basically create a container that
04:20 you can scroll through okay just like
04:22 inside image galleries
04:24 now on the content side of things the
04:26 settings are just as simple here we have
04:28 the file content stack and all we need
04:30 to do is set the cms id
04:32 you set the actual type of file it is so
04:34 in our case we had a zip file okay
04:37 now you can also hide the file extension
04:39 if you only wanted to just to display
04:41 the actual file name only and not the
04:43 extension
04:45 um you can open the link in a new tab
04:48 and then you can force a file download
04:51 if you wanted to okay this is useful for
04:53 things such as maybe you want to force
04:55 the download of an image or a pdf maybe
04:57 you don't want to open it up in the
04:59 browser okay if you uncheck this
05:02 it will actually open the link in the
05:04 browser and for if the browser supports
05:07 that file it will actually just open up
05:09 that file inside the browser okay but
05:12 there are times where you actually want
05:13 to make sure that you force that
05:14 download of the file instead
05:17 now let's move over and look at the
05:18 settings for our file depot okay we have
05:20 our cms id
05:22 we have a style which is a grid
05:24 or a list okay so this allows us to
05:27 actually display our files as a list as
05:30 well okay
05:32 um and then for
05:34 for the depot we also have the ability
05:36 to hide the extension open a new tab and
05:38 force the file download just like we had
05:40 uh for the individual file okay
05:43 then for uh the mo the grid we have the
05:46 ability to display how many um you know
05:49 files will show up in a row for tablet
05:52 desktop and mobile okay just like we
05:54 have for galleries
05:56 now if we were to change our style to
05:58 list you'll notice that we have a few
06:00 other options okay
06:02 when you use the list format you have
06:04 the ability to change the font size
06:06 potentially how many columns do you want
06:08 because if you notice it actually lists
06:10 them out and the list will flow into
06:13 columns of text which is nice okay
06:16 and then you define the minimum width of
06:18 that column so that um the actual stack
06:21 will
06:22 responsively change the number of
06:24 columns based on the size in the device
06:26 that you're on now there we have it
06:28 there is managing files inside total cms
06:32 now
06:33 think outside the box here for a minute
06:35 right we're just managing files and then
06:38 we can get urls to those files
06:42 using
06:43 the file and depots in total cms is
06:46 going to give us a lot of flexibility to
06:48 integrate into a lot of stacks that you
06:51 might not think of
06:52 okay some examples let's say you use my
06:55 html5 video stack or my html5 audio
06:59 stack
07:00 and you want to be able to maintain the
07:02 mp3 or the video file that that stack
07:05 references
07:07 it's really easy to do here
07:09 all you need to do is use a file okay a
07:11 cms file stack to maintain that maybe
07:14 you're uploading the same mp3 file okay
07:17 or updating an mp3 that will then play
07:20 on the site
07:22 or you want to update the video
07:24 so really here really your imagination
07:26 is the limit another great example that
07:28 users have been using is my power grid
07:30 csv stack
07:32 that stack actually builds a data table
07:34 in your site based on a csv file
07:37 well you can maintain that csv file
07:40 using the total file
07:42 stack so you don't need to actually
07:45 display
07:46 the content file content stack anywhere
07:49 you just have the admin stack on your
07:51 page that maintains a file whether it's
07:53 the csv file or an mp3 or a video
07:56 right so you use these stacks to
07:58 maintain that file and then you use the
08:00 url to that file to integrate into any
08:03 stack that you want
08:05 another great one is pdf embed maybe you
08:07 want to embed a pdf file and have your
08:09 customer be able to change or update
08:12 that pdf file you can do that now
08:14 directly inside total cms
08:18 now will woodgate released a playlister
08:21 stack that works awesome by pointing to
08:24 a folder that contains mp3 files
08:28 you can use the file depot to upload mp
38:31 files
08:33 and then point playlister to the depot
08:35 folder and you're done you now have a
08:37 completely integrated playlist
08:40 where users can upload new files
08:44 to a depot that will dynamically be
08:47 displayed inside their playlister stack
08:50 right that is really cool super cool
08:53 really right so i'm really excited to
08:56 see how these work right for you
08:59 how we use other stacks to integrate
09:01 them maybe not only just to provide file
09:04 downloads right but to integrate with
09:06 other stacks
09:08 that's really where the power of the cms
09:10 is when because it has all these open
09:13 standards of just linking to a file or
09:15 to an image
09:17 and really leveraging it to
09:20 power and drive other stacks that don't
09:23 even come with the cms right so i'm
09:26 really excited if you have a great use
