Stacks Guru is born from the need to search the vast number of videos out there on stacks built for Stacks Pro and the Stacks 5 plugin for Rapidweaver.
We have scraped over 500 videos to get the transcripts for each in order to make the spoken word searchable.
Please use this free tool to help you learn and discover the awesome power that Stacks and the stacks made for Stacks have to offer.
We have had three new betas released for Stacks 6 and I have yet to do a live stream for any of them. Let me rectify that today. Today we will be going over all of the new features and improvements. We might even chat a little about the things to come.
We will then dive into the PhotoPile stack that I shipped a couple of days ago. It's a fun new gallery stack. I think you are going to like it.
00:01 Okay, man. Sorry for being tardy, everybody. Let me know in the chat if everything's
00:10 good. Okay, Mr. Thor,
00:21 Restoration Training Center. Mr. Chris Powers, Marcelo. What's
00:31 happening, guys? Let me know if the audio and visuals are good. Uh, mostly audio visuals are always good, but especially I mean, look how beautiful
00:40 this face is. I even got a haircut for all you guys. Look at that. Beautiful. Okay. Oh boy.
00:49 Sounds good. Sweet. Thank you, [clears throat] Mr. James Alton Thomas. The You're only missing like the third. Please tell me you're the third J. You
00:59 know, James Alton Thomas III. That would be Man, that'd be something else. Matias, what's up, dude?
01:11 Okay. Um, got a couple big things to talk about today. Uh, a big thing I'm not going to really talk about today, uh, this be the
01:19 only time I talk about it. Total CMS 3.5 should ship tomorrow. Okay. So, um yeah, it's pretty good. Uh it's going to be
01:28 awesome. Um but that isn't big enough. We got two other big things to talk about today. Um so, was it yesterday? No, Monday night. Well, Monday night for
01:37 me, Tuesday probably for most of you. Um I shipped photo pile and um it was a very old yabdab stack
01:47 from a very very long time ago and I kind of resurrected it. Um there's zero code that's the same. I completely
01:56 rewrote it. I just um I liked the concept of it. And uh yeah, and then we're going to be talking about stack six. So without further ado, let's jump
02:04 on in. Um I'm probably going to do photo pile first just because I think it's going to be pretty simple, pretty quick, and then we'll spend the rest of the time talking about how awesome uh stack
02:15 6 is with the new betas. Okay, so let's go ahead and uh share my screen here.
02:23 Okay, here we go. And let's get photo pile up. There we go. Actually, let's
02:33 get a browser open over here, too. There we go. Wait. All right. So, uh,
02:41 what photo pile is is, um, it's just kind of a different take on a gallery, right? And instead of just a plain old boring grid of images, it's more of like
02:51 just a pile of photos, hence photo pile, right? And uh you can kind of hover over them and the ones in the back will kind of come up, right? And as you see there,
03:01 there's a nice little kind of rotation API here um that they they come up. When they come up, they're they're always going to be straight. Uh there's
03:09 actually a setting for that. Um, and then when you unhover it kind of drops down and uh goes on back on top of the pile, right? So, um, and then obviously
03:18 you click on it and you have a full-blown, uh, gallery. Okay. Uh, I'm using my keyboard now, so there is keyboard navigation, which is quite
03:26 nice. Um, I think I have uh captions disabled um, in this demo, but you can have captions as well here inside the light
03:35 box. So, um, yeah, pretty simple. Um it has supports drag and drop image urls and total CMS or any CMS. Okay. So um
03:47 yeah let's dive into the stacks. We'll see how it easy how easy it is to implement and uh then we'll move on. Okay. So here is photopile
03:58 and uh this is actually the the demo we were looking at. Right. So, um, inside photop pile there's obviously a bunch of, uh, settings control all kinds of
04:08 stuff. Okay. So, you have the minimum and maximum height settings as well as the overlap. The the overlap is really where you
04:19 start getting kind of that pile look, right? So, obviously, the more they overlap, the more they're going to be kind of stacked on top of each other,
04:28 uh, and kind of give you that more of a pile look. So, I played around. I think these default settings are pretty decent. Um, but obviously you can play
04:36 around with them. There's small, medium, and large breakpoint settings. Um, below that we have all of our
04:44 thumbnails. So, these are going to be the all the settings for the actual thumbnails. So, these are the thumbnails you're going to see here. So, what border do we want? What border size, border color, um, all that jazz, rounded
04:54 corners, um, things of that nature. Okay, this is where you can set up the the variance of the of the rotation. Okay, so and that is so that every
05:04 picture isn't rotated the same, right? They vary. Sometimes it's rotated a little bit to the right, sometimes to the left. So that's the variance. So they can vary between 12 degrees of
05:14 rotation. Okay. Um straight on hover, I said that was an option. Um you can also shuffle as well. So um obviously every time you load the page, it's kind of a
05:22 different organization. Okay. um a different shuffle pattern. Uh and then so that's all the thumbnails. Next up we have the modal
05:32 which is the uh the settings that we have here. So that's a lot of mostly color styles. So like what color do you want your backdrop? Do you want some
05:40 blur? Um the pageionation. So like the little arrows, what do you want colors for those? Things of that nature, right? Where do you want the the arrows
05:48 positioned? You can have them over the images. Also have them outside. Okay. So that's all of the the modal backdrop and the modal navigation.
05:58 [snorts] Um adding images is very simple. Obviously there's a uh little blue plus button here. You can add in a photo pile
06:07 image which is what we have here which is just the drag and drop image. Okay. Uh we also have image URL which supports
06:16 um warehouse images. So you can actually link to an image from here. And then lastly and definitely not least is we have CMS image. So photopile CMS allows
06:27 you to uh put in macros here. Macros for the image path. So if you're using something like total CMS um you can you
06:35 can kind of create a CMS generated um photo pile um from a gallery or from images or whatever. Right. So um super
06:43 powerful here. You can just plop in like a like like a total CS4 loop loop through um a gallery and then add in images from the gallery and you can have
06:53 separate thumbnails and full resolution images as well as your alt tag or caption. Okay. Um so yeah, pretty cool stuff there.
07:02 Let me see if there's any questions really quick before we move on. [snorts] Hello from Scottsdale.
07:13 Oh, thanks for the for the Yeah. Uh, yep. The kind of the tossed images on the table. That's exactly what I was going for, you know, and I saw that effect, you know, from the stack and was
07:21 like, "Ah, this has potential." So, um, yeah, I think I've definitely improved it uh from what it used to be. Um, made it much more modern. Um, and yeah, I'm
07:30 I'm pretty happy with it. So, hopefully uh you guys enjoy that as well. It's available on Weaver Space right now. Um, if you did purchase the Yabdab bundle,
07:40 um, it was actually back in November, December, January, um, time frame. Um, this was a part of that bundle. Um, I
07:49 just hadn't didn't have time to release it yet. So, um, finally took the time, uh, this month and and took it over the edge to get it get it released and ready
07:58 for everybody. So, um if you did buy that bundle, just get the link from your invoice and the download should work just fine. Okay, cool. Okay. Um let's
08:10 move on to voila. We have um stacks 6 has been uh Isaiah has been releasing um actually a bunch
08:19 of betas. We've had three betas in the past two and a half weeks or so, maybe three weeks, somewhere around there. Okay. And um we're gonna be going over some of the
08:29 key features in those demos, betas. I didn't mean demos, betas.
08:37 Okay. Um hopefully you guys aren't hearing my dog. My dog is going nuts right now. Something must be outside. So sorry. Um
08:45 but anyway, um yeah, so we have three new betas. Stacks 62, 63, and 64 um have all been released. And I'm just going to
08:55 kind of do an overview of all the awesome stuff that's been in all of them. Okay. Um, so let's start off with 62. Um, may
09:06 maybe actually if you want these release notes here, I will just put these in the in the chat if you guys. Oops, that is
09:14 not what I wanted. Sometimes copy like it does not go to my clipboard. There we go.
09:23 >> [snorts] >> Okay. Um I can't un send the last one. Ignore that last one. But anyway, there's the link to um the release notes um for 64,
09:33 which has the release notes for 62 and 63. Um you know, besides I'm not going to read through these release notes. That
09:42 is boring. We're going to go ahead and um show it to you because I think that's more exciting. Um so, let's go ahead and I'm just going to plop these over here
09:50 so I don't forget anything. I want to hide my chat window. And voila. Okay.
10:00 So, I guess uh I'll talk first about uh a new feature that was added actually in beta 64.
10:10 Okay. And the reason I'm going to I'm going to go over it first is because we can see it right now. Okay. And um so in these stacks, let make sure I'm Yeah,
10:19 I'm sharing my screen. Okay. um in the stacks project dialogue, you'll notice that there is now a recents and a templates uh tabs here.
10:30 And so what that allows us to do is that allows us to uh create project file templates. So let's say when you start a
10:39 project, you want it to have certain pages already added, maybe you know some certain some layouts or something of that nature, right? So you can kind of
10:48 build out what your template project will look like. Okay. Now, uh, one that he actually ships is just called empty.
10:56 Okay. And [clears throat] and the empty project is exactly what you think it is, right? It's just purely an empty project file. Um, set to be the homepage and um,
11:07 it uses the sample theme with basic layout. Okay, let's let's go ahead and and what I'm going to do is I'm going to
11:16 show you how you can create your own project template. Okay, so um what we're going to do is here um let's say I
11:24 wanted to create uh let's go ahead and we're going to save this project. I'll just save it to my desktop for now. And we're going to call this um
11:34 Foundation 6. Okay. [snorts] So, this is going to be a Foundation 6 project template. All right. And so,
11:43 let's go ahead and uh do things. So, we're going to set our homepage to be home. That's fine. Primary theme is going to be foundation 6. Primary
11:51 layout. Sure. Basic layout. Okay. And um you can go into your theme settings here. And if you wanted, let's say you
11:59 had a standard color palette, you didn't care for the the one Foundation had. So, let's say you wanted to use like, you know, a different color blue or whatnot.
12:08 I'm not going to I'm not not going to go ahead and change everything, but you can kind of get the idea right here. May maybe we make uh that that and then we have um alternate. Let's do on hover.
12:20 It's going to be green for some reason. Okay. And you could basically what you could do is you can set up all your theme settings to how you would want um your theme to be set up. Okay. And uh
12:30 let's go ahead and inside. Now I have to admit I haven't this is kind of I'm on the fly. I know this is should how this should work. Uh
12:39 I haven't actually created my own uh project file yet. So uh this will be interesting. So let's go into basic layout. Okay. And we're going to create a layout here. Um just like a basic
12:50 layout that I I know I want for my websites. Okay. [snorts] So, let's just say um let's just do
12:59 something super simple. All right. I'm just going to add a container uh and I'm going to put my content in there. And uh you know what? That's all I'm that's all
13:08 we're going to keep this super simple. This is something you start a new project file from. Right? So, um I'm not you know, if you wanted you could add like a create like a banner thing up
13:17 there and maybe a header and maybe a menu or something like that, right? But, um let's just start super simple. So, I'm going to chuck in a uh a Foundation
13:26 6 container inside my layout. Uh we're not going to have any partials. And we have page. Let's do like pa. Let's do like uh we also have a contact page.
13:37 Okay. Let's just and maybe I don't know maybe an about page or something like that. Okay. So, I just want to have maybe have
13:46 home about and contact us. Okay. Something like that. And so, uh, now this, let's say whenever I wanted to create a new project, this is where I
13:55 wanted to start from, it sets the theme to Foundation 6. Um, you could probably go ahead and if you wanted to like set up the subtitles or you Oh, here
14:03 important one. Default extension. We want that to be uh PHP. Okay. Always use default file extension.
14:12 Um, what else would we want? Let's see. Inside of the stack setting,
14:22 you don't want stacks. How about page settings? Hey, you know what? I I think that's good. Um, definitely I I would, you know, I think setting the the default page extension is good. Actually, I
14:31 think that is possible inside. Is that not an option in the app right now? It isn't. But it's all okay. It's okay.
14:40 It's okay. We got it. We get her done. All right. So, default extension PHP. I like that. Um, so let's save this. All right. Now, what we're going to do is
14:49 we're going to we're going to quit rapid. Uh, actually, we're going to um go into view and we're going to go into um show uh
14:59 library folder in Finder. Okay. And then what that will do is that's going to open up our library folder in
15:09 Finder. And uh I'm going to go ahead and quit stacks. Uh, and then I'm going to go into this project templates folder, which is automatically created for us. And oh,
15:19 shoot. All my desktop items are hidden. So, let's just go ahead and I think it's this one. Yes. So, we're just going to go like that. And I'm
15:28 going to go back. All right. So, I'm just going to move that in. Oh, yeah. So, now inside project templates, I have a project
15:36 called Foundation 6.stacks. And drum roll. Now, when I go ahead and open up stack six,
15:48 where is it? Did it open up somewhere? Oh, there it goes. Not sure what I hit.
15:58 Um, but now, oh, look. Now I have Foundation 6 here in my templates, right? So, if I go ahead and, uh, let's go ahead and double click on that.
16:12 Voila. I it I now have a new project file that was based on that template that I created. I'm not editing that actual project template. This is
16:22 basically a copy of that template. And uh it has the three pages that we had. Right? If I go into my layouts, my basic layout, I have that container that I I
16:32 added here. If we go into my um theme settings, I have the blue here, the blue and the green links, right? So then if we go
16:42 into site here, my default extension is PHP. Always use default extension. Voila. Pretty cool, right? That's
16:51 awesome. So, um, that gives us a lot, uh, you know, some pretty cool ways if we want to have a specific flow for our
16:59 projects, uh, to instead of what I I'm sure you guys have done the same thing, right? It's like, um, I find something that's close to what I wanted and then I
17:10 duplicate it, the the actual project file, and then I like delete stuff I don't want, right? So this gives us a very clean way to start a new project uh
17:22 from a predetermined set of stuff just to save a little bit of time. So pretty cool. That works. Um let me see if there's any questions around that. [snorts]
17:36 Um Troy says, "If you purchased Photo Pal from Yabd back in 2015, um yeah, I got to buy it now." Sorry. Um there is
17:46 no upgrade path from uh previous versions of photopile. Um it's it's a completely new stack. So there we go.
17:54 Okay. Um okay. Next feature is let me look at my little cheat sheet
18:04 here for notes. Okay. Um, let's go ahead and go to the page.
18:13 And I think I'm not sure if I have one here. Okay. Um, so one of the big features of beta
18:22 62 was something you can't necessarily immediately see. Okay. But the image engine is completely been redone and um
18:34 it supports native web formats such as WEBP, right? So what I what I was hoping to do is let's just go ahead. Let me find a WEBP on my machine.
18:50 Here we go. Oh, let's not use that webp here. Here's a webp. Not sure what what this is from. This is from
18:59 uh oh interesting. It's from a upcoming uh theme. So let's go ahead and just add that to the page. And voila. So that is
19:08 a WEBP image. Pretty cool. Um you couldn't do that before. [laughter] And uh so yeah, you can you can now add
19:17 WEBP images um not only to drag and drop to the content area, but if you have a WEBP in the sidebar uh for settings, you can do that as well. So, um, full drag
19:27 and drop support for WEBP. Um, and in beta 64, actually, I haven't played around with, but apparently WEBP also
19:35 supports animations such as a GIF, but much nicer and better quality. So, I haven't played around with animated webps, but apparently beta 64 now
19:46 supports them. So, that's pretty cool. Um, so yeah. Um, didn't I'll admit I didn't even know WEBP supported animations in lie of GIF. So, I'm I'm
19:55 very curious to see how that um actually looks nicer because gifts sometimes look really horrible, right? And they could
20:04 be very large. So, um I'm excited actually to play around with that. I haven't done that yet.
20:13 Um James said, "Wait, did you did you speak about themes and stacks?" Yes. Um more to come, James. More to come, James.
20:22 Um, so images, uh, other things with images, you'll notice that, um, up here on the left sidebar, we have pages,
20:31 partials, which we'll get to, layouts, which hopefully if you've been to some of my previous Stack Six live streams, you've heard about layouts. We're not
20:39 going to go into a bunch layouts today just because we have a lot of other stuff to cover. Okay. Um, but now in beta 62, there is now an images tab. And
20:48 any image that you add throughout your entire project gets added here. And what's really cool about this is
20:56 actually that um, in stack 6, every image is a sitewide image. Okay? Which means if you add in the you can add the
21:05 same image to multiple web pages and it will reference that one image. Right? So, if if I go into let's go to the about us page and I can be like, "Oh, I
21:15 want this." Oops. Let's go ahead and go back to the about us. I can go ahead and drag that in there. Now, this if I go to my back to my pages, the home and about
21:25 page are now referencing the same image. Okay, that's important because that actually wasn't true before. Um, this is actually referencing the same exact
21:35 image, which means that image is only getting loaded once. It's getting cached once, right? So really big really big feature actually um is is the way stack
21:44 6 supports uh and serves up our images because yeah in STAX 5 if you added uh you know if I go ahead and let's go to
21:53 uh if I'm on the homepage and I copy this image stack and I go into contact us and I paste that in stacks in stacks
22:01 5 world that would result in two separate images being published to our server. Even though it was the same image, it's actually two different
22:09 images with two different names, two different paths, right? So the browser would actually download that file multiple for each instance of the web on
22:18 web pages. But in stack six, if we go here, look, even though I copied and pasted that image, there's still only one that's getting deployed because it
22:28 knew that I was referencing on the about page, the homepage, and the contact us page the same image.
22:37 Okay, that's really big news. Okay. Uh for for website performance, for all kinds of stuff, okay. Um so yeah, really excited about that. Um yeah, I'm hoping
22:48 in the future we'll get some better organization. Isaiah, you're you're watching. So in the future, I'm sure we'll get some more better organ. Right now it's just kind of if you have a lot of images, maybe open up a bigger
22:58 project file a little bit later. Um it is just a it is a list of images that you can you can reorder and whatnot, but um yeah. Uh all in all though I think um
23:08 what we have here is really exciting because uh having sitewide images available and you can reuse images across multiple pages and it's actually
23:18 the same image is a big deal. Okay. Also the WEBP things is pretty cool. I mean it's very popular. I'm sure you you know everyone on the web is kind of using
23:26 webps now. It's kind of like the new standard. [snorts]
23:36 It's not like warehousing. What makes this so James? This um this actually kind of for images at least
23:46 um removes a lot of the benefits of warehousing. Okay? because you would warehouse an image before
23:55 because you wanted to make sure you reference the same image in multiple places and stacks now gives you that functionality with drag and drop which
24:05 is pretty cool. Okay. Now, um other things uh actually here's here's a question I know someone's going to ask. Uh you can go ahead and you can rename
24:14 your images as well. Okay, so you have full control over the names of the images and um that's very important
24:22 because in stacks five you didn't. Okay, when you dragged an image into stacks 5, you didn't have control over what that published file name was and that's not
24:32 the case anymore. So now you have control over the name. I'm hoping, like I said, uh eventually I hope it would be it would be really nice to be able to organize these in folders maybe someday.
24:42 Okay. Um, but that's not a requirement. It would just kind of be an interesting nice to have. Um, but yeah, we can rename our images. Super cool. Uh, you
24:53 can duplicate an image if you wanted to do something with it, right? Um, and the, if you didn't know, STAX 5 used to have like this image editor built into
25:01 STAX. Like you could double click on an image and it would it would show the the the um various controls you like you could resize an image. You could like make it
25:11 black and white. And I don't remember what other controls you can do. I personally never used it. Like if I want to edit my images, I'm going to do it in an app that actually is made for that,
25:21 right? Um so that image editor, at least for now, is gone in stack six. I'm perfectly fine with that. Um so yeah,
25:29 that stacks um image editor is is not a thing inside of stack six. And again, I think I was a proponent of that. So if
25:38 you didn't like that, you can knock me a little bit. Okay. Okay. Um, yes. So, I think that I think we've kind
25:46 of talked all about images and why uh those are cool. Other things, um, here's actually something that's cool. Um,
25:55 let's go ahead and All right, I'm going to I'm not going to try to guess a project that I need.
26:04 Okay, [snorts] let's go ahead and uh let's just open up a a a sample demo
26:13 file here. Now, this is STAX 5 and the the old app that we are moving away from.
26:25 Now, as you probably are aware, um let me go ahead and I'm just going to create a new page. Okay. Um,
26:36 let me go ahead and just add in some stacks into here just for fun. Let's just add in like a text stack. Okay. All right. Now, um, migrating from stacks
26:47 five to stack six. Okay. U, one ways to do that is to, uh, basically go to stacks five. You can select the stacks that you want. Um, command C, you can go
26:58 over to stacks six and you can paste. And voila. Okay. So, um you get copy and paste. Um by the way, these look like
27:07 don't look like two columns over here. It's because I I didn't add site styles to the page. Okay. Because in stack six, site styles is the theme. Okay? There is no more site styles for that purpose.
27:20 But so copy and paste is going to be a way a very nice way to migrate a bulk of our our data from stacks five to stack
27:29 six. Now, um, in beta 64, I believe, uh, let me go ahead and drag in an image
27:37 over here. Okay. Um, prior to beta 64, if I copied an image stack from um, from stacks 5 and I
27:49 pasted it into stack six, the image would not the the stack would come and all the settings, but the image would not. And I'll admit, I haven't verified
27:58 that this bug was fixed. But now if I go ahead and paste. Oh, it's going to ask for allow. And we can allow. Voila. Pretty cool. So now
28:06 images come along for the ride with one small caveat. Um I've already filed a bug. Um it's currently only images that
28:15 you drag to the edit mode area. If you have a stack that um let's say has a setting that is an image, um currently that's still being worked on. So um but
28:26 yeah uh I think making progress copy and paste of images was one of the um sticking points of migrating your
28:35 websites from five to six. So we're halfway there on that. Super excited, right? Um so yeah, copy and paste of
28:43 images between stacks five and stack six are uh are working. Check. Pretty cool.
28:52 Okay, next up is partials. So, we've used partials for many years in stacks five,
29:03 but um up until now, up until beta 62, we did not have partials inside of stack six.
29:13 So, how do they work? They worked effectively exactly the same. Okay, let's just go ahead. Let's pick I already added this container here. So let's go ahead and pick that. Okay. Um
29:23 now if you remember inside stacks 5 there were three types of partials. There were partials, there were templates and there were externals.
29:33 Basically there's just partials. Now externals um even Isaiah will admit they were a bad idea. Um there were they were
29:43 interesting idea but in real world um use um there was definitely some bad gotchas there. Um and I was a proponent
29:52 of not using them myself. Um and we do not have externals any longer. Templates on the other hand those were useful.
30:02 There were a lot of there's a there were a lot of interesting um issues with templates that um they will be making a
30:10 comeback in stack 6 but in a different way. Okay. So um they aren't going to be partial like they're going to be something different but we will be
30:18 having templates um eventually inside stack six. Okay. But let's get to partials and what we use them for. So I want to create a partial out of this
30:27 container that has two columns and two texts. You just go ahead and select it and click create a partial. Okay, pretty
30:36 pretty simple, right? [snorts] And if we go into our we're inside of our partial editor here, right? And uh we can give it our partial. Let's say
30:45 this is a two oops uh two column text if I can type today.
30:56 Okay. Um, so that is my two column text and we can let's say let's unpin uh the text areas there. Okay. And uh and we're
31:06 done. So now I can go back to my I can go back to my page and now I have my two column text and those text areas are editable. Okay. Now uh editing your
31:16 partial I can go ahead and doubleclick and that takes me to the partial. Okay. Another nice thing with stack six is the navigation. Right. So there's these
31:24 little navigation things which allows you to go back and forth between uh places you you've been within your project. So these little back and
31:32 forward arrows are very convenient and pretty fast actually. Okay. Um and that kind of that is partials right now if
31:42 you want to add uh we've used partials a lot. So if I want to go to my pa page here and go I can go ahead and drag that to this page.
31:51 Right? If I go into this and let's say, oh, I need to add a little bit of uh let's go into this stack setting. Oops. Go into the stack setting for this two
31:59 column. And uh let's just go ahead and add some gutters because and paddings, right? So because we need that because it looks a little bit nicer, right? And
32:07 let's go back to my page. And there now in my page, I have nice little gutters and columns. And if I go back to our homepage, I have nice gut gutters and columns for my columns. Right? So um
32:18 yeah, that is it's partials. Okay, just a little bit I think a little bit nicer. It's a little bit more streamlined. We have a dedicated
32:28 uh pane on the left for all of our partials. They they no longer live in the stacks library,
32:36 right? And let's talk about that a little bit. [snorts] Let's talk about the organization of stacks a little bit. So
32:45 this left pane, the far left pane is going to be the items that are a part of your
32:54 project. They're stored only inside of this project. So obviously like this p this these pages are only going to be a
33:02 part of this project. Okay. Same thing with partials. This partial only lives in this project file. It actually lives in the project file file. Okay, it
33:14 doesn't live outside of it. Doesn't live anywhere else but in that project. Same thing for layouts. Layouts only
33:22 live in your project. Images, same thing. Uh oh, interesting. There is remember I copied that other file um over from STAX 5. And there we go.
33:32 There's that file. Uh let's go ahead and rename it. We can call it like uh uh BW bus.
33:44 There we go. So now it's vwbus.jpeg. Cool. Um,
33:52 anything in this left pane lives in your project file. Then we have the library. Okay. The library are going to be um
34:00 themes and stacks that live outside of all project files. Obviously uh just as we had in stacks 5.
34:10 If you go to view, show library folder, they all live here, right? So we have stacks, we have themes, um, and all of
34:19 those things live outside of your project. Okay? So that's what the library is for is to, you know, give you access to all of the things that you've
34:28 purchased or you've made or you've gotten um that are managed outside of this particular project and are shared resources across multiple projects.
34:39 Okay. Um then we have um the settings. Um so we have site settings here. Um this is
34:48 kind of the library info. So like stuff that you've selected here. So that's you know stuff that's shown in the library. Um then we have theme settings. Um page
34:57 settings. Um well right now I'm in the image editor. So this is the image settings. Uh if I go in here that's partial settings. And then if I go into
35:05 a page it now turns into page settings. So this second tab is going to be the settings for the items that you have
35:13 selected here. And then lastly, um this is stack settings. So these are going to be the settings of the individual stacks that we select. Okay. So that's kind of the
35:23 organization of the app. Okay. See a bunch of uh of questions popping in. Let me go ahead and make sure I I attack some of these. If I rename an image, is
35:34 it linked to the image stack? Yes. So this image I remember I I renamed this one VW bus is now called VW bus here.
35:43 Let's go ahead and uh we can even verify that. Oh, let's It's always good to check, right? But we go in here. Voila.
35:52 Uh oh, interesting. Um wonder if it's here for fun. Let's just go ahead and export. Let's test.
36:01 Uh let's do a new folder. Export. create open.
36:11 Uh if we go into desktop export uh site assets uh images
36:19 interesting I renamed it. Okay, that looks like that'll be a bug here. Let's restart the project. Let's see if that makes a difference. [snorts]
36:28 else I will uh I'll file a bug for that. I kept it here.
36:37 All right. And or let's uh let's go back to our homepage.
36:48 Yep. I'll file a bug for that. Um thanks for making me look into that. So, we'll file a bug, but we can rename it and it
36:57 remembers it in the UI, but it should it should rename the exported image um as well. So, cool. Thanks for making me look at that, Marcelo.
37:07 Um this is why we have betas, right? Okay. Um so, I will use stack 6 as a platform similar to rapid weaver. Um
37:16 yes. Um stack 6 is its own platform now. Um it basically is stack 6. Uh, as you see, it's very similar to what we're
37:25 used to. There's going to be practically zero learning curve. Um, because it uses stacks and everything that you've currently used. It does support themes.
37:35 Um, we haven't dived into the themes yet, but it does have themes. Um, so it's going to be very similar to this setup that you already have. There's a new component here called layouts. I've
37:45 talked about that before uh se on several other live streams. I'm not going to dive into that today. Um but that's a new aspect that I think will um improve site designs. Okay.
37:56 When will it be available? Um it's the beta is available now. Um um he posts links to on his discord um to the beta.
38:05 Uh and there I believe if you search through the announcements in the Weaverspace community, you can you can find a download link as well. Okay. Maybe I should post another uh
38:15 announcement for beta 64 with download links and whatnot. Okay.
38:24 Um, okay. So, so far we've talked about uh images, we've talked about partials, we've talked about the the kind of the the new layout of the app,
38:33 talked about templates. Um, we've talked about images and webps. Let's see what else. Okay, the next big thing in beta 64 um is autosave.
38:44 Okay. And um and all this has to do with you don't turn it on. And if you look at the the stack settings, there is no
38:52 autosave setting right now. Um he Isaiah posted a very long um explanation of what he did and why he did it. Um and
39:01 he's open to feedback and he only wants to add settings that we need. Okay. So make sure that um that if you provide the feedback if you uh want something to
39:12 be act a little bit differently. So um right now um I do have autosave enabled on my OS and stacks is
39:22 autosaving my projects. Okay. So if I make changes and I close the file I don't need to save. I don't need to explicitly save. All my changes will
39:32 automatically be saved for me. If you don't like that functionality, okay, um there is the there is ability to turn
39:41 that off. Right now, STAX obeys the sitewide system settings. So, I am in um
39:49 the Mac OS 26. I forget what that was called. Um Tahoe. No, that wasn't Tahoe. I don't remember. Whatever. Um if we go
39:58 into [crying] H I should I should have looked at these settings. Uh
40:08 let's see. It's in general. Man, I I'm still not used to all of Apple's uh stuff here. Menu. Where's Where's that
40:18 stuff saved? It's not menu bar
40:27 appearance. Let's just say uh save
40:44 this. No.
40:57 Ah, desktop. I think it's under desktop and doc. Yes, I believe it is. Okay. So, in desktop and doc,
41:05 uh let's see if we go to here. Um ask to keep changes when
41:16 closing documents. I have that turned off. So, that means autosave is enabled. If you want to um ask to keep changes,
41:27 you need to turn that on. Okay. And then uh there is also there's one other other setting
41:39 that works in unison.
41:52 All right, hold on one second. Let me go ahead and
42:05 he posted posted on his Discord.
42:17 Second
42:29 All right, let's see. Uh
42:41 oh, what's happening? Native apps. I know he he said there was another setting that affected it that I was like, "Oh, yeah. I didn't think about
42:50 that.
43:02 Yeah, I know all that.
43:18 Ask to keep. Yep. Okay. Oh, enclose documents when quitting an application. Uh then it will close the window. Okay. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Uh that that's
43:28 loosely. Um it was saying this one here. Um so when enabled, open documents and windows will not be restored when reop I I I don't I I wouldn't consider that
43:38 part of the autosave realm, but um so yeah, basically it is this one. So I'm going to turn this on. So ask to keep changes. Okay.
43:47 Um and oh, I should have uh so now I'll just open up this project file.
43:57 Uh, and let's make a change. Uh, let's go ahead and delete that. Okay. And so now instead of instead of just
44:07 closing the file, it's now asking me to, you know, save or revert my changes. Okay. So, um, yeah, that is all done
44:15 with this ask to keep changes when closing documents. It's up to you whether or not you want that or not. Um, yeah, there we go. Okay. Um, I'm going
44:25 to turn mine back off because I'm helping out, testing around. Um, yeah. So, there is autosave. Now, I
44:33 should talk about I uh I deleted that project file I created, didn't I? That kind of sucks. Whatever. Let's talk about there are some things
44:43 that uh some people aren't even. Now this is a generic Mac OS thing with autosave. But if you go into here into file there is save and so you can force
44:54 save with just command S. Okay. But there is no uh by default there is no longer a save as. It is a duplicate.
45:04 Okay. Oh it's down here. Okay. So um command S will save your document. uh shift command s which is normally the uh
45:13 save as command um is now duplicate. Okay. However, if you hold down the option key,
45:22 you can do a save as when you're in autosave mode. Okay. Um so slightly different, right? Save as will what it
45:32 will do is it will save the changes that you've made since you've opened the document as a new document. Okay. Um whereas duplicate will take
45:42 your existing current version of the document and duplicate it. Okay. So again, that's not a stack six thing. It's something that's baked into the OS
45:51 now. Um but a lot of people aren't aware that that's how those two things work. Okay. [clears throat] So that is save autosave. Uh let me go
46:02 ahead and what's left on my list? Okay. two things that aren't new, but I thought uh warranted
46:11 uh yeah, something to look at. Okay. Um let's go ahead and I want to show you quick open. So, if you just do shift
46:20 commando, okay, uh it opens up this little dialogue right here. And actually, you know, I'm going to open up a project that has a little bit more stuff in it.
46:31 Um hold on one second. File, open recent. I think this one does. Let's just open this project. I think this has a number of pages in it.
46:42 Yes. Okay. Um so this as you see I have I have a lot of different projects or pages here. I
46:51 have a layout. Um this particular project doesn't have any partials but um here just for fun uh I'm going to go ahead and um we're going to create a
47:01 partial out of this. Just for fun, we're going to call it um buttons. Okay. Um and let's go back to home, right? Um so
47:12 quicknav, if you do um shift commando, right, it opens up this little open quickly
47:20 and you can start typing. So I just created that buttons partial. So I can type buttons and voila, it takes me to that. Shift command O. Let's go back to
47:30 my homepage. Shift command O. I want um basic layout. Boom. Right. As you see, it's a very
47:39 nice way to go um I don't remember what other pages I had. Right. Um markdown,
47:48 right? So, uh yeah, it's a very quick way to quickly navigate as long as you know the names to things. Um and there
47:56 is some fuzzy matching going on, right? But, um pretty cool. I think open quickly um is yeah is pretty awesome. So
48:04 check that out. Um and funny enough I implemented open quickly in the total CMS admin area and I on purpose made it the same exact keyboard navigation
48:15 shortcut. So um shift commando um is is where you get that. Okay. A lot of fun
48:23 there. There we are. All right. Next up is
48:32 [clears throat] let's go ahead and extract that partial. I never showed how to extract the partials the same as it was before. Okay. Um let's show you the
48:41 uh actual the link dialogue inside stacks. Um it's a little bit different. So now if we click edit link um we have
48:50 a new different type of link dialogue and it's very similar to open quickly where you can just start typing stuff. So if I wanted to that to link to the homepage um it does that right. So um I
49:01 could just start typing um I want to type let's see I don't know feed right voila now if you notice um it there is a
49:10 web page here I also have some images called feeds banner feeds banner right so let's say this particular one I wanted I wanted to link to that image
49:20 and voila that warehouse link is now going to link to the image um because that's what I selected right again I I'm
49:28 I really like actually the link dialogue I think it's it's really awesome. Um he did a really good job with that. Um so yeah, I just wanted to kind of show you
49:37 um how that link that new link dialogue works. And uh yeah, I hope you enjoy that. It's pretty cool.
49:46 Oh, here it is. It was this one. I was wondering why this one didn't have It's because this one isn't set to be a link. Got it. So yeah, just click on that. If you want to zero it out, you can. You
49:56 can also um add custom attributes uh via the link attributes um just as if you want to add a class or a data attribute or title or whatnot. Um you can do that
50:06 here just as you could uh in STAX 5. Okay, but the uh the link tool itself is is pretty nice. Um I like it. You can also just paste in a URL in here as
50:16 well. So if you just want to link to a URL, right? So let's just say I do wstacks uh photopile, right? So I wanted to link to photopile there. There we go.
50:25 So now now that button is going to link to um that URL. Now what's really cool here um I'm going to let's go ahead and link to home. Okay.
50:37 Um let's open up my little my little cursor tool here. If we look at the link here, okay, you'll notice what it does is it links to slashindex.php.
50:47 Okay. Or if we look at this image, it links to sliteassets uh images feedbanner.jpeg. Um what's different about this than um
50:56 prior versions and what's really awesome is that it always links to the fully qualified path to the thing that you um
51:04 are linking to. Um and that is actually a really great thing. Okay, I know um for for the novice user, they probably
51:13 you probably won't even care. Um but there but this makes things much more reliable um because you're always supplying just the path. You don't need
51:21 it doesn't supply the URL or anything like that. It's just the path to the full path to what you're linking to, which it just makes linking um a lot
51:31 more reliable, especially when you're copying the buttons across pages and whatnot. Um it's going to be much better. Okay.
51:41 Okay guys, um let me see if there's any more questions. I I think that was pretty much it. That's all I had for today. Um I wanted to go over all of
51:49 those features. does what's new. Couple things that weren't new but are uh are awesome. Um the link in the quick open that I I wanted to make sure people were
51:57 aware of how to use. So um let me see if there's any more questions in the chat here. Where does one get the beta? Um on the
52:07 community, Roy. So go on the Weaver Space community, search for STAX beta, and you'll find a download. Okay. Um, if you want if you have a STAX beta already
52:17 and you don't see the update to beta 64, um, what you're going to want to do is you go into the developer tab, right?
52:25 Yeah. Devel settings, go to the developer tab and click on developer beta updates. Okay. This means that you're going to be
52:34 getting the latest betas that maybe, you know, obviously they are developer betas, so they're going to be a little bit, you know, buggy and whatnot, but um
52:44 yeah, I right now since stacks, we don't really have um a production version of STAX 6 yet. Um all the betas are dev betas, so um yeah, go [clears throat]
52:54 ahead and that will get you stacks beta 64. Um and yeah, it's really shaping up. Um, I I kind of want to talk about some
53:03 stuff that I know is coming down the pipe, but I I'm going to save it, okay? Um, because it's pretty awesome. It's hot off the press. I'm working really
53:11 hard with Isaiah to um make sure that Stack 6 is the best web design software out there. Um, and uh, we're definitely
53:19 going to do it. Okay. Uh, this combined with Total CMS is just going to be an absolute gamecher, okay, for for building um, websites. Um, and uh, yeah,
53:30 I said I wasn't going to talk about again, but 3.5 release of total CMS coming out tomorrow. Uh, don't miss out on that. Okay. Um, hey, any other questions? Uh, more
53:40 great things created. Can I can I use folders and pictures? Uh, can I No, you can't have folders in the I I'm assuming what you mean is
53:51 um, you want to add folders here. Okay. Uh, oh, here's a project that has lots of images. Uh, we can't add folders to the images yet. Okay. Um, hopefully
54:01 that's something that we'll get in the future. Um, I don't maybe it will come after launch. I don't think it's like a a a super necessary feature at this moment as long as we have image support,
54:11 site images. Um, but yeah, uh hopefully eventually we'll get some organization into this. Okay. I I personally don't while I I think I agree would be nice,
54:21 it's nothing that's uh mission critical. Stack library always dark mode isn't
54:29 working for me. Any ideas on how to fix this? Should I reinstall it? Um,
54:37 is your m is your OS not in uh let's see uh where general stacks library I have follow. So always
54:46 dark mode edit area always light mode. Oh
54:54 interesting. So I I assume your your OS is in light mode and then you're using always dark mode. maybe that because if
55:02 I my OS is in dark mode so if I if I choose always light mode it's not right. So, um it could be um follow you know
55:12 why why are you using light mode on your OS dude? Come on. Be be a developer. Marcelo, go to dark mode, but uh yeah, that looks like a bug. Nothing you can
55:21 do. Um so, let's file it. Okay. Um edit mode. Let's see if I use always dark mode. Always. I do use always light mode for my edit area. Follow system
55:30 appearance. I've actually been thinking about changing my setup so that this is in dark mode. I don't know. But [snorts] I don't know about that. Uh I' I've kind
55:39 of had this edit area always light mode for so long that it just feels right. But um yeah, that looked like a that looks like a bug for the uh stacks
55:49 library.
56:03 I think I answered all the questions. Um, if you guys have any more questions, uh, please go ahead and ask them on the community and, uh, we'll definitely help
56:12 you out and answer them for you as soon as possible. So, without further ado, I really appreciate you guys coming on today. Go check out Photo Pile. Um,
56:20 released it a couple days ago. It's on the Weaver Space site. Go check that out. It's a really fun new take on galleries that isn't just your traditional grid, right? Um, so yeah,
56:29 hope you enjoy that. Check it out. Go purchase it. Uh, I'd appreciate it. And uh yeah, have a great rest of your week. Friday hangouts. Um so yeah, basically 1
56:40 hour from right now, but on Friday, um please come and join us. Uh they're a lot of fun. There's a lot of learning going on on those Friday hangouts. So
56:48 hopefully uh if you if you have any questions, that's definitely the place if you're struggling to uh to go and get answers. So take care everyone. Have a great rest of your
