00:00 Blagh in total CMS changes everything
00:10 hey everybody
00:12 Joe workman here and today I am excited
00:14 like really deep down excited to show
00:17 you blog for total CMS it has been in
00:21 the works for 8 months now can't believe
00:25 it right it's been eight months since I
00:26 started the first line of code for the
00:28 blog since I released the initial
00:31 version 1.0 of total CMS and man isn't
00:36 just awesome now it's been an open
00:38 public beta for many many months and I'm
00:42 excited to show you some really stellar
00:45 implementations of it today now I'm not
00:48 gonna dive deep down into every single
00:51 look and cranny right today in this
00:53 video we're gonna be looking over a
00:54 general overview of what blog is a
00:57 general overview about how we can
00:59 implement it and then if you need more
01:01 details we're gonna create specific
01:03 videos about each individual components
01:05 of the blog because it upon its you know
01:08 on its own is a full-fledged complex
01:12 product that really is a game-changing
01:16 product for rapidweaver right again it
01:20 provides a full online blogging
01:22 experience for rapidweaver
01:26 right it is awesome and some users are
01:29 even using it outside of the box for
01:31 other things and we'll see some examples
01:33 of that as well so without further ado
01:36 let's go ahead and jump in and see some
01:39 amazing implementations of blog for
01:42 total CMS and here we are on the general
01:45 demo of the total CMS website okay so if
01:50 you go to blog page this is exactly what
01:52 you'll see now this is just a generic
01:55 blog with some you know generic data
01:57 that I've added myself okay but what
02:00 you'll notice is we have a beautiful
02:02 card layout and what you'll see is that
02:05 every single blog post here potentially
02:08 has multiple images and it's
02:10 automatically creating a slideshow of
02:12 those image
02:13 is to be displayed to the user this is a
02:16 really great feature and there's a lot
02:19 of different layout options that you can
02:21 do if you don't want a slideshow you can
02:23 show a grid of images you can only show
02:25 one image right I mean there are a lot
02:27 there's a lot of flexibility in this
02:29 layout and this is the cards layout
02:31 we'll see that there are other lists
02:33 based layouts that you can do as well
02:35 next you'll notice on this page that we
02:37 have a nice little sidebar here where we
02:39 can actually search through our entire
02:41 blog we can quickly filter by things
02:44 such as tags and authors and then we can
02:48 also click on links to actually go to
02:50 that particular filter as well so these
02:53 links are based on category so if I
02:56 click on the vacation link here what
02:58 you'll notice is it takes me to the page
03:00 and filters my blog posts to show me
03:03 only the blog posts that are inside the
03:06 vacation category now there are a lot of
03:09 other options that we can do for filters
03:11 and links right but this gives us a
03:13 great idea of what we can really use the
03:16 blog for and all the powerful features
03:19 that it has that we want from what a
03:22 traditional blog gives us now if we jump
03:26 over to the admin interface we'll see
03:27 how easy it is to edit and add new blog
03:31 posts so here I am on the general demo
03:34 admin page and as you see here I have a
03:37 list of all of my current blog posts
03:40 here we'll notice that I can mark a blog
03:43 post as draft I can set it as featured I
03:46 can delete that blog post and then get
03:49 links directly to it as well as links
03:52 directly to the RSS feed for my blog
03:56 you'll see that I can quickly glance at
03:58 all the tags and categories okay if I
04:01 want to edit that blog post I simply
04:03 click on that and it takes me to the
04:06 forum that allows me to edit that blog
04:09 post now here we see on the form we can
04:11 easily modify all of this text with the
04:14 hip wig editor we can use tags right we
04:18 have a nice auto completion for tags if
04:20 you want to add new tags and things of
04:22 that nature
04:23 right authors
04:25 you can set things as draft and featured
04:27 and then you can add as many photos as
04:30 you want to the blog post gallery every
04:33 single blog post can have as many images
04:36 as you'd like they all have their own
04:38 each individual gallery so now what
04:41 we're gonna do is we're gonna jump over
04:42 into the soccer demo that is on the CMS
04:44 website and if we scroll down here
04:47 you'll notice that the recent games
04:49 section is actually powered by the blog
04:51 okay I've only displaying two games
04:54 right now okay but each of these is a
04:57 blog post and as you see just like the
04:58 other example it is it does have a
05:01 slideshow that shows multiple images for
05:04 each game and if we were to view the
05:07 match details here what you'll see is
05:10 that this is the individual blog post
05:12 page and we can really integrate the
05:14 details from our blog post throughout
05:17 our blog page you'll notice that up here
05:21 at the title I have the title of my blog
05:23 post here is the summary okay here I
05:26 have the full-blown contents of that
05:28 blog post further down here I have the
05:30 image gallery and if you were to click
05:32 on an image you can view that entire
05:34 gallery okay and then over on the
05:38 sidebar we have related matches so these
05:41 are related blog posts to the one that
05:44 we're seeing here so you can display
05:47 blog posts that have the same tag or
05:49 maybe the same category right this way
05:52 you can actually keep users interacting
05:54 with your blog posts and displaying and
05:57 having them keep reading your posts that
05:59 are related to the ones that you are
06:00 currently on now next up is a stellar
06:04 implementation of total blog this is
06:06 probably the first site that went live
06:08 that used total blog to its extent and I
06:12 have to say that I'm I love this website
06:14 is a master class website for acting and
06:17 to be honest this site could put on a
06:19 master class on how to implement total
06:22 CMS because everything about this site
06:25 is managed by total CMS and the blog as
06:28 you'll see here there are multiple blog
06:32 lists on the home page so we have latest
06:34 news we have upcoming classes right
06:38 what's great is while there is one blog
06:41 for the entire site we can differentiate
06:44 these posts by tags so in this case the
06:48 latest news posts have a tag of latest
06:51 news now here on the what's on page it's
06:54 using a blog post for each event and
06:56 this particular blog list here is
06:59 displaying the next future events that
07:01 are available and if we look at the
07:03 ticket offers you'll see that we can see
07:07 even more events that are available to
07:09 purchase tickets for now the next set
07:13 we're gonna look at is bridge from
07:15 hipster Weaver now this isn't just a web
07:18 site this is actually a project theme
07:21 that you can purchase and see exactly
07:23 how hipster Weaver or John here has
07:26 implemented total CMS and foundation in
07:30 a beautiful site and then you can take
07:33 that and leverage that for your own
07:34 purposes right so here's the blog page
07:38 inside the bridge theme and what you'll
07:41 notice here is at the top he's using
07:43 impact in the impact stack integrates
07:47 with total CMS blog so that you can
07:49 dynamically display your blog posts
07:52 inside a beautiful slider so as you add
07:55 new blog posts this slider is gonna
07:58 automatically be updated to contain the
08:01 latest blog posts that is really
08:04 powerful and if you look further down we
08:07 can see a nice beautiful card layout for
08:09 each blog post that he has set up here
08:11 now as you see when we go to an
08:14 individual blog post inside bridge
08:16 you'll notice that the background image
08:19 of the page actually is used from one of
08:22 the background images in the gallery of
08:24 that blog post it's very powerful he has
08:27 a nice video embedded video in the blog
08:29 post as well as all the images from the
08:31 gallery available right there to be
08:33 viewed now the last example that we're
08:36 gonna look at is another project theme
08:38 this time from Johanna beets and it is
08:42 the Iceland theme and this actually you
08:45 can see a nice list layout for the blog
08:49 again it's a little bit different than
08:51 cards right where
08:52 we have a lot of flexibility in terms of
08:54 listing each one on top of each other
08:56 okay he also has a beautiful card layout
08:59 option here as well so there we go that
09:03 was just a glimpse really just a glimpse
09:06 at what we can accomplish using total
09:09 blog there are so many different layouts
09:12 that we can do in the cards and in the
09:14 list layouts right in terms of it's
09:16 completely customizable you can put you
09:19 know you can add colors you can add
09:20 backgrounds you can have two column
09:22 layout you can have image on top of the
09:24 text right it is completely up to you
09:26 you have full freedom in terms of the
09:29 design of your blog list layout now as
09:32 for the blog post page you can add
09:34 whatever you want right you can put your
09:36 data anywhere you want oh and one thing
09:38 I forgot to mention is it has full
09:40 integration for social sharing so all
09:43 the the Facebook meta tags that you need
09:46 for when a blog post is posted on
09:48 Twitter or Facebook right all of the
09:51 metadata is in the web page already for
09:55 you so you don't need to worry about
09:57 doing that so that it adds the summary
09:59 of the blog post as the description it
10:01 gets an image and adds that as the share
10:03 image right so that when your posts are
10:06 shared on social networks you have
10:08 beautiful share sheets already
10:09 configured on everything it's really
10:13 really cool so as we saw total blog has
10:16 all of the features that we expect to
10:19 see inside a traditional blog we have
10:22 search we have the ability to have tags
10:24 and filtering our blog posts right we
10:27 can add multiple lists on our page we
10:30 can click through and see a blog post
10:33 right we can set blog posts as drafts we
10:36 can set them as featured blog post so
10:38 that they always show at the top or the
10:40 bottom our or maybe you want a style
10:42 featured posts a little bit differently
10:44 right we have thought about everything
10:47 we have been testing and developing this
10:50 for over eight months and over those
10:53 eight months we've had users building
10:55 live blog sites using this and we've
10:57 integrated all of the feedback that
10:59 they've ever wanted right this really is
11:02 the ultimate blogging solution
11:04 for rapidweaver now you might think is
11:07 this hard to implement how do i
11:09 implement this in rapidweaver
11:11 what needs to be done is it simple yes
11:14 it is let's check it out
11:16 so here we are inside rapidweaver and
11:18 you'll notice that inside the total CMS
11:21 stacks there are two blog admin stacks
11:25 there are a blog forum and the blog list
11:29 then if we look at the content stacks
11:31 there is a blog filter a blog list and a
11:34 blog post okay what are all of these
11:38 used for essentially the blog is made up
11:42 into four separate components we have
11:46 two main components on the admin side
11:47 right one is the ability to list out our
11:51 blog posts right so we can see all of
11:55 the existing blog posts and maybe you
11:58 know delete them or edit them or you
12:00 know set as draft or set is featured as
12:02 we saw before right so that's it simple
12:05 it's just a simple list of what blog
12:07 posts are currently saved in the CMS now
12:11 the next component of the admin side is
12:15 the form the ability to add new blog
12:18 posts as well as edit existing blog
12:21 posts now I suggest that the form piece
12:26 be its own dedicated web page it just
12:29 makes it simple and clean okay so you
12:32 can have your your blog list with all of
12:34 your other you know admin components so
12:36 if you're you know managing other images
12:39 or text throughout your site you can
12:40 easily just have a little blog section
12:42 on the admin area so you can list out
12:44 all of your blog posts okay however you
12:47 probably want to separate the form so
12:49 that it's that it's on its own extra
12:52 page now the next two components are on
12:55 the content side okay so again admin
12:58 side we have the list and the form on
13:01 the content side of things we have the
13:04 blog list right which really isn't just
13:07 a list it's that card layout or that
13:09 blog list layout where you or your
13:11 customer actually sees all of your blog
13:14 posts that's probably going to be on
13:16 your home page or
13:17 or your main blog page the next
13:20 component okay is going to be the blog
13:22 post this is the actual details of the
13:26 blog post so someone clicks on a link on
13:28 your blog on your main blog page they
13:31 want to view all of the actual details
13:33 of that blog post okay
13:35 those are traditionally gonna be on two
13:39 separate pages right you're probably not
13:41 have a dedicated page for your blog
13:42 posts details okay this is gonna be a
13:46 page where you know you have the blog
13:47 title as the h1 and all that jazz right
13:50 now as you saw earlier you can have blog
13:53 lists on your blog post page okay and
13:56 that's when we use to actually we use
13:59 the blog list and the sidebar to show
14:00 related posts and things of that nature
14:02 right so that that's powerful okay so
14:06 that you can then show lists of other
14:08 blog posts on your blog post detail page
14:11 to link to other blog posts on your site
14:14 so you're gonna have four separate pages
14:16 let's jump back into rapidweaver so we
14:18 can kind of see that live inside
14:21 rapidweaver so here we are again back in
14:24 rapidweaver
14:24 and this is the demo project that ships
14:26 with total CMS so you can see exactly
14:29 how all of this is done and how it's all
14:31 laid out okay so here we're gonna look
14:34 at the content side first and that is
14:36 this first blog page and this contains
14:39 the blog list so if we preview this page
14:43 this is going to be basically the home
14:45 page of your blog that is gonna list out
14:47 all of your blog posts for you now I
14:51 also have the bog filter stack in the
14:52 sidebar right
14:53 but the main thing about this page is
14:56 that it contains a blog list it is a way
14:59 that your customers can view all of your
15:01 blog posts now one thing I didn't
15:03 mention earlier is actually that you can
15:05 actually configure infinite scrolling
15:07 and load more so that you you want your
15:10 page load fast so maybe only want to
15:12 load for blog posts but your customers
15:15 can actually view older blog posts
15:17 through either infinite scrolling or you
15:19 know clicking on a load more button now
15:22 when we when the customer clicks through
15:24 we need to set up the blog post page so
15:28 this is the blog post page
15:30 and this page controls the individual
15:33 blog post again it contains the details
15:36 for a single blog post that your
15:39 customer is going to be viewing now it's
15:41 great is you set up one blog post page
15:43 and it's going to be used for all of
15:46 your blog posts right so again we're
15:48 dynamically inserting the data for you
15:50 on the website on the fly when the
15:53 customer requests it it's very great now
15:57 here we are on the admin side and let's
15:59 go through the two components the two
16:00 pages that are required for your admin
16:02 now on your main CMS admin page you can
16:06 add the blog admin list stack okay this
16:10 allows you to have this nice list where
16:12 you can actually view all of your
16:13 existing blog posts edit them delete
16:17 them or create new blog posts okay now
16:21 you're gonna link these obviously to the
16:24 form so that when you click on to edit a
16:27 post or you click on this button to
16:28 create a new blog post okay it's gonna
16:32 take you to the forum page which is the
16:35 last page now in this last page it
16:38 contains the form that we're going to
16:39 use to create a new blog post now the
16:43 CMS does some magic so that when you it
16:45 knows when you want to edit a blog post
16:47 and it will pre-fill all this data with
16:50 an existing blog post that you can edit
16:51 that blog post as well but this one same
16:55 page is used for adding new blog posts
16:58 as well as editing existing ones now if
17:03 you're curious how any of these layouts
17:04 were built remember that this entire
17:06 project file is available for download
17:08 at any time so I hope that gives you
17:11 some you know some clarity on how you
17:14 can implement and the pages required to
17:17 implement total blog now again I'm gonna
17:19 do individual videos on you know the
17:24 admin list and the admin forms and then
17:27 the content blog list and the filter as
17:29 well as the individual blog post page
17:32 right so I'm gonna be doing individual
17:34 videos of all of those right because
17:37 there are a lot of settings and a lot of
17:38 options it's a lot of power in this
17:41 product but again this was just
17:44 the primer to kind of get you um used to
17:47 what kind of entails in the blog what we
17:50 can do with it okay and the pages and
17:53 the things required to get started
17:55 so from here on go through and check out
17:59 the other videos so that you can dive in
18:02 and learn even more I'm really excited
18:05 about blog I am I can't wait to see all
18:08 the other sites out there that allow you
18:10 to build things you can never have
18:12 dreamed of before in rapidweaver right
18:15 because of stacks we can now customize
18:17 the entire look of our blog page and not
18:21 have any crazy hacks of maybe blogging
18:23 on something else and importing it in
18:25 and write it's all native it all just
18:28 works and it's so awesome
18:32 so without further ado jump in check out
18:35 more of the videos or dive in and just
18:37 start playing with blog because it's
18:39 awesome
18:39 now one more thing I should add is that
18:42 all this sample data that you saw and
18:44 you see inside the demos are is all
18:48 available for download as well so if you
18:50 don't want to take time to you know
18:51 generate fake blog data to kind of play
18:54 around with it right I totally get that
18:56 okay so I have a download supply of the
19:01 default demo data so you just download
19:04 that throw it on your server and you can
19:07 go ahead and start playing today right
19:09 you don't need to try to create dummy
19:11 blog data it's all there
19:13 okay um so enjoy the beautiful pictures
19:16 that I took I didn't take all of them
19:18 but some of them are awesome some are
19:19 mine some are more not but anyway okay
19:22 take care love blog check out the other
19:26 videos and I can't wait to see what you
19:29 build so make sure you share it on
19:31 Weaver space and submit your designs to
19:33 the Weaver space design gallery when
19:36 you're done I can't wait to see them so
19:38 thank you very much everybody
19:39 take care and enjoy"}]
