00:17 talk about migrating our tumblr blogs
00:21 over to total CMS okay so if you're a
00:26 tumblr blog user if you don't already
00:28 know okay my tumblr stack will cease to
00:34 exist from three weeks from today okay
00:37 so what does that mean what are our
00:41 options now unfortunately all of this is
00:45 completely out of my control right
00:48 tumblr decided to UM revoke my API
00:53 access now they did it bluntly one day
00:56 and I was luckily able to get them to
00:59 extend it for three week or are sorry
01:02 for 30 days right so that was nice of
01:06 them I was hoping it would be longer but
01:08 it's now crunch time and I need to give
01:11 you guys options in terms of what you
01:14 can do now okay now in my post I in a
01:18 post on Weaver space I kind of detailed
01:20 a few options right now if you wanted to
01:23 stick with tumblr totally an option okay
01:28 but what you're going to have to do is
01:31 instead of the blog actually showing on
01:33 your website you're gonna have to
01:35 actually change it to link out to tumblr
01:39 com so it'll link out to your actual
01:41 tumblr domain right um maybe this isn't
01:45 what you want right but this is what
01:47 tumblr wants us to do ah another option
01:51 is will woodgate does have a micro blog
01:55 stack and that does support tumblr okay
01:59 um I don't know exactly how it does what
02:02 it does I'm just assuming that if tumblr
02:07 revoked access to my stack I'm thinking
02:10 eventually the microblog stack will stop
02:12 funk
02:13 Janine eventually as well right so that
02:17 is just a short term solution okay
02:21 long-term solution is if you want to
02:24 stay with tumblr is to just link out to
02:26 the tumblr blog and then your blog will
02:29 actually be separate from your website
02:31 ok now with the cool stuff ok as you
02:36 probably know I have a really cool
02:38 product called total CMS right and it
02:41 has a blogging component to it and
02:44 what's great is you have full control
02:46 since the entire blog lives on your
02:48 server right since we have control we
02:51 don't need to worry and be at the mercy
02:53 of people like tumblr ok and other
02:56 instances of this happening the password
02:58 like Twitter and Google Maps right where
03:00 those services yes we get to utilize
03:03 them but at any point in time they can
03:05 cut the threads right they can cut the
03:07 umbilical cord so if total CMS with
03:12 total CMS you have control it all lives
03:15 on your server right there are no
03:18 threads or strings to cut ok so what I
03:22 have built is I built a really cool
03:25 little app that I am calling total move
03:29 ok and what it does is it goes ahead and
03:33 it connects to tumblr downloads your
03:35 entire blog and all of its images and
03:39 generates a folder for you that all you
03:42 have to do is upload into total CMS and
03:44 your blog is magically moved into total
03:49 CMS right it does all the work for you
03:51 and it is fast right very cool ok so
03:56 without further ado let's jump on in
03:59 okay now remember if you don't have
04:01 total CMS you can go ahead and download
04:03 it it is a 30-day free trial ok and
04:06 after that you need to pay on a per
04:08 domain basis ok but for now let's jump
04:11 into the new total move app and we're
04:13 going to connect a tumblr and see
04:15 exactly how easy it is to migrate from
04:17 tumblr to total CMS ok so here is the
04:21 total move app now you can doubt get the
04:23 download from this from the show notes
04:25 below ok you can get it
04:26 my website okay essentially all you do
04:31 is hear you enter in your tumblr domain
04:34 so I'm going to go ahead and enter in
04:35 Joe workman dot tumblr com okay and you
04:41 can it enter or you can hit the verify
04:43 button okay and if you notice once I
04:46 verified it actually went verified that
04:49 yes this is joe workman's blog and i
04:52 have a hundred and fifty-six posts okay
04:54 now a couple things before i download
04:57 this i could just go ahead and click the
04:58 download okay but let's do a little bit
05:01 of housekeeping first what I'm going to
05:03 do here is I'm going to enter in the URL
05:06 to the rapidweaver project that i am
05:09 going to be placing this blog on okay
05:12 this just helps get all the linking
05:15 setup and whatnot ok so this should
05:17 probably be the URL that you have set
05:20 inside your website address in your app
05:22 weaver project file okay so inside the
05:25 general settings of your project so this
05:27 will be the main web address for your
05:29 project and let's go ahead and sign this
05:32 a CMS ID if you don't set one it will
05:35 default to tumblr which I'm just for
05:37 kicks i'm going to set it to tumblr
05:39 anyways okay so now that I have all of
05:42 this set okay all i need to do is click
05:45 download
05:47 click on download the app is then going
05:50 to prompt me and asking me where I want
05:53 to save this download information let's
05:55 just go ahead and choose the desktop
05:57 click select and it's done you see
06:01 download complete as you see it
06:03 downloaded 156 blog posts and all
06:07 related images in just over a second
06:11 pretty awesome so if we look at finder
06:14 will notice that on my desktop I have a
06:17 folder called Joe workman tumblr com and
06:19 then and then inside there i have a CMS
06:23 data folder now what's great is if
06:26 you're familiar with total CMS this is
06:29 the data that we need for our blog okay
06:32 so here I have blog tumblr and here's
06:35 all of the blog posts that we have okay
06:38 and then here's the galleries related to
06:40 all the individual blogs as well okay so
06:45 if you're familiar with CC mess all I
06:46 need to do is upload this to my server
06:49 so here's my server and I've already
06:51 uploaded this just to save a little bit
06:53 of time in this video right now if you
06:55 have existing CMS data in here you just
06:57 need to make sure that you kind of you
06:59 know upload these and integrate these
07:00 with your existing CMS data so you don't
07:02 want to trash everything right this only
07:05 contains the the data unique to this
07:08 particular blog okay so very cool you're
07:11 just going to upload that to your CMS
07:13 data folder on your web server now one
07:17 thing I should point out okay is that it
07:20 also generates an HT Access file for you
07:23 if we look at this file here so if we
07:26 have a look at this file you'll see that
07:28 what the app does is it creates a bunch
07:32 of redirect rules for us and now this is
07:36 from the old kind of tumblr style a blog
07:40 URL and this is the total CMS blog URL
07:44 okay so this does a mapping from the old
07:48 tumblr based blog URLs that contained a
07:51 number okay just the ID and then we have
07:54 the new style URL which we can actually
07:57 use the slug from each individual blog
08:01 very cool now obviously you're going to
08:04 want to tweak the paths to these okay
08:07 that fit your website okay so you're
08:09 going to tweak the blog index dot PHP
08:11 maybe you have it news or something like
08:14 that right and then you're going to want
08:15 to tweak this to be what it is on the
08:19 total CMS side okay and then you can
08:22 just you know just do a straight replace
08:24 all and then copy and paste this into
08:26 your HT Access file and you will lose
08:29 zero okay links SEO all that jazz
08:33 because we're doing 301 redirects from
08:36 all of these older URLs to the new total
08:39 CMS based ones it's very cool okay so
08:43 now let's jump into rapidweaver and now
08:46 i'm not going to dive into all of the
08:48 blog settings okay and how I built
08:50 everything here okay but if you notice
08:53 all I need to do is I build my blog
08:56 layout okay and then i set my CMS ID to
08:59 be tumblr okay same thing on the blog
09:03 post page i set my CMS ID to be tumblr
09:06 and of course same thing on the admin
09:08 and and the new blog forum page as well
09:11 just make sure you set all the CMS IDs
09:13 to be tumblr and what's awesome is it
09:17 will work immediately so inside will see
09:21 here I've uploaded my tumblr data to my
09:25 server and Here I am inside rapidweaver
09:28 with my tumblr blog straight in total
09:32 CMS I've done no massaging of the data I
09:37 just uploaded that data to my server
09:39 pointed the total CMS to use that tumblr
09:43 CMS ID and we're good to go I have all
09:47 of my blog posts from tumblr now inside
09:50 total CMS
09:53 now that really couldn't be any easier
09:56 right I mean I bill i spelt about a week
09:59 building this app that will seamlessly
10:01 download everything fast as hell right I
10:04 mean it is fast okay it downloads
10:06 everything formats everything to total
10:09 CMS all you need to do is upload it and
10:11 you're done right I mean I wanted to
10:14 make this a extremely simple and
10:17 painless up update process for you so
10:20 that you can migrate and start using
10:22 total CMS now now on the admin side I
10:25 have full control to edit all the blog
10:27 posts now there are some things to think
10:30 about right I do map some things on a
10:33 one to one so tumblr tags get mapped to
10:35 total CMS tags okay um the total CMS
10:39 category is set to the type of tumblr
10:42 post so if it is a photo type of post it
10:45 is a category of photo and if it is a
10:47 video post it is a you know category of
10:50 video okay now all your video embeds do
10:53 continue to work assuming that used you
10:56 know tumblr I'm sorry if you use YouTube
10:59 or Vimeo to embed those videos now if
11:01 you used um tumblr to embed audio or
11:06 video okay the tumblr embeds will still
11:10 work okay however i would recommend may
11:14 be looking at some other options may be
11:16 editing those particular blog posts to
11:18 maybe use youtube or something like that
11:20 but with that said the tumblr embeds for
11:23 audio and video posts if you did use
11:26 those and upload those assets straight
11:28 to your tumble blog okay they do still
11:30 work inside total CMS every image that
11:35 was in every blog post is now inside
11:38 total CMS okay so you don't need to
11:40 worry about broken images or any of that
11:43 it is a hundred percent downloaded and
11:45 uploaded into total CMS assuming you
11:47 uploaded everything ok now another thing
11:52 is tumblr didn't fully support summary
11:56 versus content like total CMS does so
11:59 what the total move does is it takes the
12:03 full-blown content from every blog post
12:05 and it adds it to both
12:07 the summary and the content field okay
12:11 so if you wanted to have summaries for
12:15 each blog post you could just simply go
12:17 and simply edit a blog post and change
12:20 the summary to be what you would like it
12:22 to be okay but for right now it does
12:25 display the full blown blog contents
12:28 inside the summary field okay and if
12:31 that includes the video embed it has
12:34 that there as well okay so a few things
12:39 again to think about is um it does
12:42 migrate tags and categories okay you
12:44 might want to re-edit some things okay
12:47 in terms of the summary versus content
12:49 maybe you want to add things like author
12:51 which aren't in tumblr okay or we have
12:54 extra content there's a couple extra
12:56 fields that total CMS has that tumblr
13:00 doesn't okay now galleries okay as you
13:05 know each blog post in total CMS can
13:07 have its own gallery essentially what
13:11 we've done is for photo posts and tumblr
13:15 okay those photos that are part of the
13:17 photo posts are added to the gallery
13:20 okay now in tumblr you could add
13:23 multiple photos in a photo post all of
13:26 those images will be downloaded and
13:29 added into the gallery for you
13:31 automatically okay so i hope that you
13:34 see how useful this app is and i hope it
13:38 gives you a seamless transition from
13:41 tumblr to total CMS right um as you saw
13:45 it just took me minutes to download you
13:48 know download everything and then you
13:50 know of course you need to upload it I
13:52 didn't show the video I didn't want to
13:53 waste your time meet uploading you know
13:55 50 megabytes of blog posts to my server
13:58 right but it really is that simple
14:01 download it with total move upload it to
14:04 your server configure total CMS to use
14:07 that blog ID and you're done right it is
14:12 really simple I hope you enjoy this I

14:20 it really was completely out of my
14:22 control I wish I could force tumblers
14:25 hand and allow them to continue you to
14:28 use it as we have been for years but

14:34 CMS it is bigger badder and just more
14:38 awesome for rapid of your users so until
