00:00 I'm flying solo I'm flying solo hey Greg
00:16 how's it going today
00:17 oh wait Greg isn't here today it's just
00:20 me
00:21 so you know I had a conference couple
00:24 weeks ago and then you know Mother's Day
00:26 happen and you know all kinds of other
00:28 stuff happened and me and Greg weren't
00:30 able to connect this week but I didn't
00:33 want to leave you guys hanging so I said
00:36 Greg can I just do a solo episode so
00:39 that we can make sure that you guys get
00:41 the pleasure of having another Weaver
00:43 radio episode live in your ears we're
00:46 not live but you get it right um so what
00:50 I'm gonna do today I thought it would be
00:51 interesting I know I kind of went you
00:53 know last a couple weeks ago we kind of
00:55 talked about you know kind of the future
00:58 of rapid uber and where we see things
01:00 and stuff like that and I thought it
01:03 would be fun to kind of dive deep into
01:06 what my personal plans are for Weaver
01:08 space and um kind of behind the scenes
01:11 on how everything runs for a weaver
01:15 space right how do I run Weaver space
01:17 and so I thought that would be kind of
01:19 fun
01:19 I know we have a lot of rap review users
01:22 obviously listen to this podcast and we
01:24 have some non rep we're users listening
01:26 to this podcast because they just enjoy
01:28 enjoy me and Greg for some reason who
01:31 knows why so what I what I want to do is
01:37 I'm gonna start talking about kind of
01:39 like the vision of my original vision of
01:41 Weaver space and where I see it going
01:44 and then we're gonna talk about some
01:47 behind the scenes stuff and this
01:49 probably gonna take up two episodes so
01:51 um I don't want to you bore you out too
01:54 much so we're gonna kind of split it in
01:56 half but yeah I want to talk about the
01:59 behind the scenes stuff
02:00 what's all the tools that I use how's
02:02 everything working in the background why
02:04 do I do this or that and kind of what
02:07 are my plans for all these things in the
02:08 future so hopefully you enjoy um again
02:12 it's just gonna be me for
02:13 the next two episodes part 1 and part
22:15 of you know my wit my vision for Weaver
02:19 space and kind of the behind the scenes
02:20 of how everything how all the magic
02:23 happens right so to give a little bit of
02:28 premise um maybe for non rap RiRi users
02:30 what is Weaver space and what is our
02:33 target market right or what is our
02:35 avatar in hipster marketing speakwrite
02:38 avatar for all you it's not some blue
02:41 people right avatar is a marketing term
02:43 for who your target market is so
02:46 Weaver's spaces avatar okay is pretty
02:50 much what people that want to build a
02:53 website better right they want more from
02:56 the from existing tools they probably
02:58 used right maybe they've they've been
03:00 using WordPress and that's kind of a
03:02 headache or maybe they've tried things
03:04 like Squarespace or you know Wix and you
03:09 know things like that and they're just
03:11 not happy with how you know they want
03:13 more right
03:15 and the second criteria for the for the
03:18 market is primarily rapidweaver users
03:21 right now okay and the reason is that's
03:25 just where we started and so what
03:27 rapidweaver is is a Mac app okay so it's
03:32 a kind of a WYSIWYG tool for lack of a
03:36 better term app on your Mac it's a CMS
03:40 app that lets you design your website on
03:42 your Mac you then hit a publish button
03:45 and then f2 pees it up to a hosting
03:48 service that you have okay so you have
03:50 to pay for a hosting service whatever
03:52 you know your favorite hosting package
03:55 is and then you pick click the publish
03:57 button and it will publish that website
03:59 it'll build it for you and then publish
04:01 it up so it's kind of like a static
04:02 website builder but it has a very nice
04:05 interface I love it because it kind of
04:07 is a very good marriage between you know
04:10 drag-and-drop WYSIWYG and getting down
04:12 and dirty into code right even though I
04:15 know how to code everything from scratch
04:18 right I do enjoy just dragging and
04:22 dropping things around which is why I
04:25 love using rapidweaver but in the
04:27 chances and the instances that I want to
04:30 actually do something in some code I
04:31 can't really really easily write I can
04:34 type in some JavaScript HTML PHP CSS you
04:37 name it right there's even some some
04:40 crazy people that have used wrap over
04:41 for like you know some real stuff or
04:43 some ASP stuff and so totally possible
04:46 most of the stuff in the wrap Reaver
04:48 ecosystem is around the the traditional
04:51 lamp technologies so HTML CSS JavaScript
04:56 PHP okay
04:59 but yeah our target market is
05:01 rapidweaver and then on top of that
05:03 there is just an amazing plugin for
05:06 rapidweaver called stacks that is it
05:09 really is a must-have and that's from
05:11 Isaiah over your head just an amazing
05:14 thing that opens up an entirely new
05:16 ecosystem for you called stacks within
05:19 rapid reverse so it's kind of like an
05:21 ecosystem within an ecosystem it's very
05:24 niche is very cool though and it's a
05:26 hundred percent fun so that is our
05:30 target market okay and within that
05:32 basically we have three types of users
05:34 we have people that want to build their
05:37 own websites their personal websites we
05:40 have business owners that want to build
05:43 their own website for their business and
05:44 then lastly we have the freelancers that
05:47 are building websites for other people
05:49 okay whether or not you're full-time or
05:51 are you doing it on the side you're
05:53 building websites for other people
05:58 now essentially I want my vision for
06:01 Weaver spaces to be the central hub for
06:04 all of these weapons firing web
06:06 designers to learn teach make friends
06:10 and and also you know obviously make
06:12 amazing websites together so it's it's
06:15 more than just building you know selling
06:18 of tools and and stuff like that it's
06:20 it's really I want it to be a central
06:22 hub where you can you know learn from
06:24 other people you know where if you have
06:27 you know some abilities others don't you
06:29 can either teach them or help them how
06:30 right
06:32 there's obviously tons of great
06:33 tutorials and videos and documentation
06:36 and and all kinds of stuff we have you
06:39 know hangouts and we actually live meet
06:42 every Friday and I've made some really
06:45 really close friends you know I don't I
06:47 consider a lot of these people aren't
06:48 even my customers anymore they're just
06:50 blood like my friends I see them every
06:52 week and our hangouts on Fridays which
06:54 I'll talk about a little bit and it
06:57 really is a very tight-knit community
07:00 and I want we were space to be even more
07:02 of a central hub for all of those users
07:04 and and to grow that and to make it as
07:07 big as possible and I'm really excited
07:09 about that now what are that like the
07:13 pillars of Weaver space right what are
07:15 what are the main parts that make it
07:17 special okay
07:19 obviously we have the store which is
07:22 products right we have the community
07:24 site which is you know kind of like it's
07:27 more than a forum right it's I love the
07:29 software that it runs on which we'll
07:31 talk about later on but on the community
07:33 we have the hangouts we have this
07:35 podcast right we have the conference
07:38 that is been going three-year strong
07:40 that's just so much fun to do I can't
07:43 wait for this year's conference then we
07:46 have you know tutorials and you know and
07:49 some blogs and design galleries and
07:51 stuff like that to kind of inspire you
07:53 okay so let's let's dive into each these
07:56 pillars to kind of get a view on what
08:01 they do for us so obviously our store is
08:03 a bunch of products right and right now
08:06 Weaver space it will contain primarily
08:08 my products oh I should note that as of
08:12 right now it is May 17th and what I'm
08:18 about to talk to you all about doesn't
08:20 actually exist right now so everything
08:24 is on Joe workman net right all of my
08:26 products and my my dying blog and and a
08:30 bunch of other stuff right and as I've
08:33 said in many previous podcasts I'm
08:35 moving everything over to the Weaver
08:37 space brand so if you were to go to WWE
08:40 Weaver's space right now it is a holding
08:43 page okay that says we're coming soon we
08:46 are working hard on designing this new
08:49 site but you can enter and join the
08:51 community right now okay and that
08:53 community's been around for about two
08:54 years now and it's it's really grabbed
08:58 hold I think it's just a wonderful
09:00 community to be a part of again a lot of
09:03 great users and just a great place to be
09:07 so check out a community dot weavers dot
09:09 space if you're not a member and head
09:11 over there join the conversation now
09:13 jump in and have some fun okay so with
09:17 that said soon let's say
09:20 want to say June 2018 okay I'm putting
09:23 the stake in the sand June I I hope to
09:27 have this out that gives us about six
09:29 weeks John mr. John Hawkins helped me
09:32 design a site so you know we want to
09:35 have this website out and what are the
09:37 main pillars around the entire brand
09:40 right so um the new website it's gonna
09:42 have a store okay obviously and the
09:46 story if we look at the major products
09:48 okay there are kind of four pillars four
09:53 products that we have obviously the the
09:55 big the big pillar the big product that
09:58 a lot of you the listeners are probably
10:00 already using is foundation right the
10:03 foundation suite of stacks it's it
10:06 really gives you the full freedom to
10:09 have a framework that allows you to
10:11 build whatever you can dream up um using
10:14 rapidweaver so you start with a blank
10:17 canvas and you can build anything you
10:21 want now there's a lot of great kind of
10:24 project theme developers out there that
10:25 have built a lot of themes that kind of
10:27 get you jump-started hipster weaver
10:29 johanna beets and i think there's a lot
10:36 more that has some great pre-made
10:38 projects for foundation so foundation is
10:41 is the first big pillar right um that
10:43 kind of really jump-started a lot of
10:45 things in the community and the next big
10:48 pillar is my email stacks so similar to
10:53 foundation what we have for building
10:56 websites the email stacks is for
10:58 building HTML email okay so I released
11:02 these last year um and to get more
11:04 information on these we did an entire
11:06 podcast episode I don't remember what
11:08 what episode number it was earlier on I
11:10 think was like episode 3 or 4 on email
11:13 and I kind of reviewed what my email
11:15 stacks does and it basically gives you a
11:18 drag-and-drop interface for building out
11:19 HTML email for your marketing campaigns
11:22 or your drip campaigns and things of
11:23 that nature
11:24 right so that's another another big
11:27 product another pillar for the product
11:30 space in Weaver space and the next is
11:32 total CMS
11:33 which I have been going all in on um in
11:37 the past year
11:38 okay and especially the past six months
11:40 I've been working on version two and
11:42 it's gonna be powering the new Weaver
11:45 space website and hopefully we'll get
11:47 beta testing going on later this summer
11:49 so I'm really really excited about total
11:52 CMS - it really is just gonna blow your
11:55 socks away um it is just an amazing
11:58 product that is the most powerful thing
12:02 out there I think to build out a dynamic
12:05 powerful you know ecommerce or you know
12:08 whatever whatever sort of site you want
12:09 right it's just gonna be a really
12:11 powerful way of managing a dynamically
12:14 data-driven site so you can you know
12:17 have a nice site and then our last
12:19 pillar is basically everything else
12:21 right we have 150 products right now and
12:25 so you know 150 products fills up a big
12:28 pillar so you know we got products from
12:31 everything you can imagine right from
12:32 videos to galleries to you know
12:35 call-to-action stuff to buttons to you
12:38 name it right there's all kinds of
12:39 products and for the first time ever I'm
12:43 I don't think I've ever publicly
12:44 announced this um weaver space is gonna
12:46 be more than just your workmen I I
12:48 really want this to to grow to be
12:51 something bigger than just me hence
12:53 moving off to work Manette onto weaver
12:55 space and so we're gonna start seeing
12:57 products from other developers on the
12:59 weavers space right and i'm really
13:03 excited about this because it allows you
13:05 know i'm only one guy there's only so
13:07 much stuff that I could do and there's
13:08 there's a lot of great people in the
13:10 world that that can really make some
13:11 amazing stuff and we want to make it
13:14 easier for them to get these products or
13:17 you know resources out to you the user
13:20 faster okay and so we want to remove the
13:24 roadblock of them trying to set up some
13:25 sort of e-commerce store or some sort of
13:27 you know download page on their websites
13:29 to make resources available to you now
13:33 that could be you know free stacks or
13:35 paid stacks it could also mean some cool
13:38 project files that they've been making
13:39 right wolf over in Germany recently
13:42 released a great foundation total CMS
13:46 project called in
13:47 and he wants to make that available for
13:50 free for everybody so instead of you
13:52 know him having to worry about creating
13:53 some sort of resource you know online
13:55 resource that he has to then maintain um
13:57 Weaver space is gonna be the central hub
13:59 for people to share all of these things
14:01 right and again it's gonna be you know
14:04 project files themes it's gonna be Stax
14:08 free and paid Stax right and I just
14:11 again I want this to be a central place
14:13 where everybody can go to get really
14:16 top-notch qualities things okay now me
14:20 as the gatekeeper I'm gonna make sure
14:21 that the quality of everything that you
14:23 guys get is up to you know our standards
14:26 so not every you know guy who just
14:30 started out is gonna be releasing you
14:33 know free stacks all over the place we
14:35 want to make sure everything is quality
14:37 and if someone has a great great idea
14:38 you bring to us we'll help maybe help
14:41 you me even make it better so that we
14:42 can then release it on to Weaver space
14:44 okay so yeah I look forward to that if
14:48 you have any questions about any of this
14:50 stuff today
14:50 please just shoot me an email um to a
14:53 Joe at weavers dot space so if you're
14:56 interested in potentially you know
14:57 releasing some resources or stacks on
14:59 Weaver space you know please just you
15:02 know hit me up directly Joe at weavers
15:04 dot space and let me know and we can
15:07 chat about it another great thing about
15:10 this is I want Weaver space to not only
15:14 be a central place to purchase your
15:15 things or to find resources free
15:17 resources as well is you know Weaver
15:20 space is going to be your your one stop
15:21 shop for all of the support for those
15:23 things right because we want to make
15:25 sure that if you buy something from us
15:27 whether or not you know Joe workman
15:30 developed it or not you get support from
15:32 us so it's gonna be we're gonna take
15:35 take on support and basically everything
15:38 the kit and caboodle for for if someone
15:40 you know to make the barrier of entry
15:42 for releasing new products and cool new
15:44 things for you guys just really low so
15:47 they can go off and make some cool stuff
15:48 hand it over to us and we'll you know
15:51 we'll make it available to you and
15:52 support it for you so I'm really excited
15:55 about that I think it's going to be a
15:56 great thing for the community
15:59 next up is obviously the community
16:01 website which we've already had for a
16:03 couple years so I'm not gonna really
16:05 dive into that you know and go really
16:07 far into the community site but just as
16:10 we're gonna offer multiple products for
16:12 multiple developers on the store there's
16:14 already been the ability we have many
16:16 developers already with their own custom
16:18 spaces in the community so like little
16:20 sub communities within the Weaver space
16:22 right big white duck cart loom you know
16:25 rapidweaver ninja
16:26 chili dog all these developers have
16:29 spaces that you can join in the
16:32 community already and then interact with
16:34 them directly so I'm really excited
16:36 about that hopefully we can grow that
16:38 and add some more developers and new
16:40 spaces to fit to the community site and
16:42 I think it's gonna be great next up is
16:46 hangouts hangouts is a huge has been
16:50 huge for me alright for the past five
16:52 years we've been doing live hangouts
16:54 every single Friday now for the longest
16:57 time it was on Google Hangouts hence why
16:59 we call it hangouts right but recently
17:05 you've been using an app called zoom and
17:06 I love it it's been really really great
17:09 and it's really it's really helped me
17:12 foster a a very personal connection with
17:16 users because it allows me to just hang
17:19 out with people every Friday um to be
17:23 honest like I look forward to that
17:25 because it's a lot of fun I get to show
17:27 off some new stuff I worked on this week
17:28 I we talked about everything under the
17:30 moon whether or not it's cars or
17:32 tractors or web design or SEO or you
17:35 know some latest Mac app that got
17:37 released
17:38 I mean basically anything is up to up
17:40 for grabs to talk about so you know half
17:43 the time we we don't even talk about Web
17:45 Design but if you please join in if you
17:47 haven't joined a hangout they're just a
17:50 lot of fun
17:51 we have other Greg from chillydog right
17:53 he joins us most Fridays and it's just a
17:57 lot of fun we have anywhere from 10 to
18:00 sometimes up to 25 people join in and
18:03 it's just everyone talking and chit chat
18:06 and getting to know each other you know
18:07 a lot of times we talk with each other
18:08 on the community site so give me
18:10 actually see a face with the name and
18:13 and talk to them it's a very personal
18:14 connection and I really enjoy that so
18:17 please come on in
18:18 I want to make a personal connection
18:19 with you I want to get to know you and
18:21 see what we can do to make you know your
18:24 experiences better you know using our
18:27 products so I'm really excited about
18:29 that I really want to actually do more
18:31 hangouts in the future so I want to
18:34 maybe do take a spin on a webinar and do
18:38 maybe more formal right now our our
18:40 Friday hangouts are really really
18:42 informal and they go on for a long long
18:45 time they they go on for up to like five
18:48 hours sometimes and you know to the to
18:53 the chagrin of my wife sometimes she's
18:54 like I need you need me to do more work
18:56 but I just love hanging out with you
18:58 guys so um you know a lot of times I'll
19:00 work while we do hangout but you know
19:03 it's ultra highly productive to me to
19:06 connect with each one of you guys
19:07 personally and chit chat on the hangouts
19:11 and and learn from you teach you guys
19:14 right I learned a lot on the hangouts as
19:16 well right it's not just you know me
19:18 doing some sort of seminar and teaching
19:20 right it's it's just chit-chatting and
19:23 getting to know each other and learning
19:25 from each other and it's great but I
19:27 want to do more formal ones that are
19:30 probably more strict on time that are
19:33 targeted for more you know webinar based
19:36 things either I'm gonna show you a
19:37 feature of a product and think it maybe
19:39 keep it to you know 45 minutes or
19:41 something like that where you can join
19:43 in live they'll probably be recorded and
19:45 then post it to our YouTube YouTube
19:47 channel or something like that later on
19:49 so yeah I want to do more of those if
19:52 you agree if you think that would be
19:55 beneficial please go ahead and shoot me
19:57 an email
19:58 again Joe Weaver's out space I'd
19:59 appreciate that and next is podcasts
20:03 right doing a podcast now obviously
20:05 podcasts are big and we're I'm lucky
20:08 I'll looking forward to growing this one
20:10 you know and getting Weaver radio up to
20:12 you know thousands of listeners every
20:13 episode I think that'd be a lot of fun I
20:15 think we could definitely do it and I
20:17 think it'd be interesting to maybe I'm
20:19 ticking around with another idea of
20:20 doing just like a short like two-minute
20:23 podcast to augment we were radio just
20:25 like maybe a quick
20:26 TIPA day called Weaver's briefs you know
20:29 looking at you know Alexa Amazon's Alexa
20:32 has Alexa briefs and maybe integrating
20:35 with that so I could just quickly you
20:36 know get in your ear everyday a quick
20:38 little tip or tat and I just triggered
20:41 my Alexa so damn it shouldn't I said her
20:46 name
20:46 okay the next pillar is the conference
20:49 and I just announced a couple days ago
20:53 the dates for 2018 is gonna be September
20:56 7th to September 9th this year okay um
21:00 and we'll probably do a one-day workshop
21:02 before the conference as well just like
21:04 we did last year so that could be
21:06 September 6 through September 9th and
21:09 those have been really really stellar um
21:12 I we get anywhere from about a hundred
21:16 and fifty people join the conference and
21:18 they're all live we have 15 speakers
21:23 over three days that just do an amazing
21:26 job that teach us all kinds of stuff
21:29 right whether or not it's you know um
21:31 you know I'm talking the guy maybe we're
21:33 gonna have a session on Facebook Ads
21:35 this year right to get some to get more
21:38 exposure into that world right to you
21:40 know design principles for how do we get
21:43 ideas right - you know how to's of
21:46 rapidweaver and and total CMS and
21:48 foundation and all kinds of other stuff
21:50 right so we have definitely have stuff
21:52 for everybody from beginners all the way
21:54 to advanced users and everything's
21:57 recorded so it's a lot of fun and we're
22:00 gonna be releasing the the pricing for
22:02 that hopefully soon um we're working on
22:05 I'm working on may be looking at a new
22:08 payment provider and so yeah I'm excited
22:12 about that
22:13 save the dates please it is September
22:15 7th through September 9th 2018
22:17 super excited about that next up is blog
22:21 okay
22:22 and um I haven't been good at blogging
22:26 like that that's probably everybody
22:28 right you you you have great intentions
22:30 of doing a blog and you know I have a
22:33 lot of ideas and things I want a blog
22:34 about I just don't have the time right
22:37 so I'm asking gonna have asked some
22:39 help from you okay and what I'm thinking
22:41 about doing for Weaver space because I
22:43 want it to be a place that you go to and
22:45 you learn and always has new articles
22:47 and things of that nature and so what I
22:49 want to do is maybe get some guest
22:51 bloggers if if you want to give back to
22:53 the community any and you're a great
22:56 writer I know there's a lot of really
22:57 great ones out there I have a few people
23:00 in mind I'm gonna probably reach out to
23:02 you individually but if you get this if
23:03 you hear this first please email me and
23:07 I'd love for you to be a guest blogger
23:09 you know whether or not it's just giving
23:11 general rapidweaver or web design tips
23:14 or specific tips about a particular
23:16 product or you know I would love to have
23:19 more people involved in writing articles
23:21 for the community I think that would
23:24 just be a really great place for it to
23:27 all happen you know I also have in the
23:30 community I right now I have a news
23:31 section not quite sure how I'm gonna
23:34 merge that in with blog or if it's gonna
23:36 be completely different but that's just
23:38 news that I've seen around the web and
23:40 you know I post that and I've been doing
23:42 that pretty regularly so if you haven't
23:44 checked that out go to community to
23:47 community dot weavers dot space slash
23:49 news and there's a bunch of great
23:52 articles from around the web that I post
23:54 there for for your enjoyment and last
23:58 thing is the design gallery and that is
24:00 a big part of the website as well and
24:03 what that's going to have and we have
24:05 that now it's community dot weavers dot
24:07 space slash designs and that is just a
24:11 place where users and yourself can
24:13 submit this websites that you've created
24:16 and you can tell us what all the
24:18 products that you made that you use to
24:20 make that right and so it's really cool
24:22 it's a good place to get some
24:23 inspiration see what users are doing and
24:26 if you haven't submitted any websites
24:28 please do so we'd love to see your
24:30 design submitted so that other users can
24:34 be inspired by your work as well right
24:36 so
24:38 so okay so that kind of wraps up my
24:41 vision okay for what rapidweaver or for
24:45 what Weaver space is and what its going
24:47 to be in the future I'm really excited
24:50 about it um it actually took me a lot
24:52 longer to go through that vision than I
24:53 expected um so what I'm gonna do is I'm
24:56 gonna I'm gonna cut it off right now and
24:58 then the next episode we're gonna go
25:00 through the behind the scenes and how
25:02 everything is built and what tools we
25:04 use and and all of that good stuff so I
25:07 hope you enjoyed this episode again if
