00:46 here we go so Greg how you been very
00:51 very busy summer is flying by feels like
00:55 it's gonna be over pretty soon it's
00:57 bittersweet yes yes have you messed with
01:00 anything exciting a few things a few
01:04 things
01:05 stacks have been focusing on new version
01:08 of Weber quicksand and the hosting side
01:11 all sorts of goodies I'm trying to make
01:16 things better on my hosting side so you
01:19 know making making backups faster and
01:21 better and more reliable and new we're
01:26 gonna plug in for people to to make SEO
01:30 a little bit easier and better and more
01:34 seamless and then you'd find in other
01:37 places you know trying to always push it
01:39 try to find a competitive advantages to
01:42 make make chile dock hosting a lot
01:45 better and more compelling for everybody
01:46 you know
01:46 wait they could make the switching
01:49 easier you know make it okay a little
01:53 awesome a no-brainer so how would you
01:58 promise total sea mr. Dylan oh it's it's
02:00 going really really really well um you
02:03 know it obviously everyone I'm working
02:05 on total CMS too if you didn't know for
02:06 the up and coming new Weaver's dot space
02:09 website I'm migrating all of my products
02:11 over there so
02:13 today is July 29th and I hope to have a
02:17 betta out to the insiders Gregg you'll
02:20 be on the insiders list to get a sneak
02:22 peek of the new site within about a week
02:24 from now so by the beginning of August
02:27 we'll have a beta version up yeah it's
02:30 it's been it's been a rollercoaster ride
02:33 you know I I was hoping that I get my
02:35 original plan was February you know I
02:37 thought oh I can get all this done by
02:39 February and I can't believe it's six
02:41 months later and I am still working on
02:43 it yeah I I feel you there because I I
02:48 kind of would have so much more done by
02:51 now but you know I do this why we kind
02:54 of did the the recap episode the men you
02:56 reviewed up yeah exactly
02:58 it's kind of like a gut check and kind
03:00 of hold us accountable for getting our
03:03 stuff done yeah but things are going
03:06 really well like I said hopefully by you
03:08 know a week from now I'll have a stuff
03:11 for insiders and then probably about two
03:13 weeks after that so probably about you
03:15 know two weeks before the conference
03:17 will get be going live with the new
03:18 website and that'll be exciting news
03:25 what news no no continue okay then you
03:32 know this week I launched us launched
03:34 tickets for the conference so people can
03:35 now go to rap mover conference calm and
03:37 get tickets to the conference that is
03:39 September 7th to the 9th right so and
03:43 there I'm going to be giving a sneak
03:45 peek into how I built
03:47 the new website so that'll be kind of
03:49 fun right so what's this new exciting
03:52 news Greg I don't know if it's exciting
03:55 it's more of like check yeah check your
03:59 sites I was just a chrome 68 came out
04:03 the other day so I finally dropped you
04:05 know we talked about that before but
04:08 it's finally here so if your sites
04:10 aren't SSL enabled you're gonna start
04:14 giving people with error messages in
04:17 chrome that they can't connect and on
04:21 secure and throwing all these weird
04:22 messages I'm sure will confuse a lot of
04:25 people I know I certainly
04:28 I'm people asking me about it
04:32 so let's finally live you know it's a go
04:36 day I saw something yep
04:39 so what what episode was that that we
04:41 did that we we did a whole episode on
04:44 ssl and certificates I but I want to say
04:46 was episode 10 let me let me quickly
04:49 look it up really quick
04:53 I'm already ready I definitely will
04:56 check it quickest oh no my I gots I have
05:01 some DNS issues with my router and every
05:03 now and then like it just won't connect
05:05 to any website it drives me nuts
05:07 oh yeah this week has just been
05:12 technical hell for me in terms of just
05:15 nothing is working for me it's just been
05:17 one of those weeks okay you don't use
05:21 you know news and I 1.1.11 I do but I so
05:24 I have an euro router you know the e ER
05:27 I wish the mesh network and pay for
05:30 their euro plus right which comes with
05:33 like some like adult content filters and
05:35 you know other filters you know for the
05:38 entire network and even though I have my
05:40 DNS set to one that one that one it it
05:43 still kind of goes through their their
05:45 system to filter stuff out and every now
05:48 and then I it's just the past like two
05:50 weeks it's been like you know website
05:52 said I know work just like stop working
05:55 for like a minute or two it's it's
05:58 starting to drive me nuts
05:59 I actually I submitted this port request
06:00 two days ago I finally heard back from
06:02 him today so hopefully they'll help me
06:04 out and get it fixed because it's
06:05 starting to drive me yes
06:06 that's cool I have one of those as well
06:09 it's nice I don't pay for the plus so
06:12 I'm not sending I don't need it yeah I
06:17 have my my daughter's two teenagers are
06:20 near teenagers don't worry about that at
06:24 this time yeah it's nice you can set up
06:27 with a plus you can settle like profiles
06:29 for various you know devices so I could
06:32 like you know I have a profile setup for
06:34 my teenagers all of his devices and I
06:36 could just be like boom you're shut down
06:38 now man time to go to bed yeah it's very
06:44 cool um it's actually kind of
06:46 interesting other profile set up for
06:48 sorry we're kind of going off on
06:49 tangents okay um I have a profile set up
06:52 for all my things right so like my nest
06:54 cams and like all my Internet of Things
06:57 stuff right and ever that like if I know
06:59 I'm doing this show I'll just quickly go
07:02 on and turn off all of that stuff so
07:04 that you know I know it's not eating up
07:06 any sort of bandwidth because all those
07:08 nest cams and whatnot like I'm home I
07:10 don't really need them streaming stuff
07:13 to the internet and using up my
07:14 bandwidth while I know when I need it
07:16 right so that's good sure sure
07:19 like it was episode 10 jump onto the
07:21 HCBS bandwagon boom look at that so
07:24 you're right good memory
07:27 well I've been recommending it to a few
07:29 people because I know people were
07:30 talking about this chrome release on the
07:32 forums and an accompany were like oh I
07:35 need to move at HTTP now so I've been
07:37 pointing them to that episode a few
07:38 times so yeah it's a great episode check
07:41 that out yeah you know there there is
07:44 some mixed
07:46 mixed feelings I have now about that now
07:48 that it's kind of out because like over
07:51 the you know Ivan said I've been having
07:53 technical issues this week one of the
07:54 technical issues is I've had some hard
07:56 drive failures in my Mac probe so I
07:58 potted a new Synology and I was setting
08:00 that up you know on Friday when we were
08:02 at the Hangout and so I bet I was
08:06 setting all that up and it's obviously
08:08 it's all done on the web it has a web
08:09 interface to manage the actual device
08:11 and the device it just uses HTTP right
08:14 um you know there's no real need it's on
08:17 my local network to install like HTTPS
08:19 certificates on it and all that jazz but
08:21 like when I went to the web in the web
08:24 browser the interface you know I got a
08:26 little message thing non-secure you know
08:29 website I don't mind
08:30 yes it is non secure but like it's on my
08:34 no local local network right like does
08:37 it really need it I don't know so
08:39 interesting conundrum where I I'm
08:42 wondering how browsers are gonna going
08:44 to are they gonna block people from
08:46 potentially eventually trying to visit
08:48 an HTTP site that's like their local
08:51 router like I don't know yeah if if you
08:56 get really technical there's a whole
08:58 thing about like dev domains if you have
09:01 a dev domain it has to be HTTPS and can
09:04 use it for local development to decide
09:07 changing you know beyond yes you're
09:10 going but same same problems like that's
09:12 just messed up my development workflow
09:14 because I basically run that run a
09:16 little web server and set up some
09:20 domains like a lot of you know CDI star
09:22 dev for chili dog software development
09:25 and all of a sudden I need to have has
09:28 to be SSL and had a change it from table
09:30 dev to some other domain POV that
09:36 don't dad is a real ple and you're not
09:39 real clarity so yeah I used to try to do
09:43 that a long time ago you see use dev for
09:45 like my local like little website like
09:47 test sites on my local Mac and I
09:48 remember I remember running into that
09:50 now yeah I I'm switched everything
09:52 that's like dot local now that's kind of
09:54 what I use but um that's the recommended
09:57 thing to do it's just like I guess how
10:02 do I however just do some comments to
10:04 someone so speaking automatic stuff I'm
10:12 getting ready to release something
10:14 pretty cool I'm excited about their
10:15 sweet what's that yeah okay I'm just
10:28 waiting for your audio it's a site Mac
10:34 helper or chili dog hosting cops noise
10:38 so basically it went basically every
10:42 night first off Gregg what is a sitemap
10:44 file uh uh general you want to go and
10:48 take it back alright sitemap yeah it's
10:51 it's it's basically a catalogue of all
10:53 the URLs for your site so it lets search
10:56 engines know what pages to crawl that
10:58 exists on your website so we can find it
11:00 index everything pretty easily it's like
11:02 a it's really a if you think of it break
11:05 it up a sitemap it's really that it's a
11:07 it's a map for your site so it's like
11:10 navigating your site how do we find
11:12 everything on your site to index search
11:14 engines so Google Bing and all the other
11:18 search engines will read this file and
11:20 then crawl your site based on that so
11:23 what I've been working on than what I'm
11:26 in the process of getting you know
11:28 testing and looking at get released
11:31 pretty soon is a sitemap helper so every
11:35 night
11:36 we published your websites your sitemap
11:39 gets submitted to Google and Bing
11:40 automatically so
11:43 so you get down
11:45 get indexed faster index better you
11:48 don't have to worry about updating or
11:50 submitting your sitemap to webmaster
11:52 tools or any of those other places so
11:55 from the get-go your your getting
11:58 indexed you're starting to get ranking
12:00 and all that kind of good stuff and you
12:02 will have control over this so you can
12:04 enable and disable it on a per site
12:06 basis and you'll get and you can opt in
12:10 to email so you get notifications and
12:13 I'm gonna psyche it's a new site that
12:15 gets submitted
12:16 I was pretty cool and it only happens
12:18 once a night so if you make all the
12:20 little changes it doesn't get submitted
12:22 multiple times and
12:26 and it only happens if the second app
12:27 changes so if you don't publish it and
12:29 came to your site then they get
12:30 resubmitted and you know you're good
12:32 cool cool yeah so how do I know that you
12:38 know like rapidweaver it does do sitemap
12:40 files right so um if I if I'm using rap
12:45 Weaver to create a sitemap file well ace
12:46 wrap Weaver does it for you
12:47 automatically right so inside the I
12:50 believe it's in the shoot I should look
12:52 at what what settings is it Greg I think
12:55 it's in the general settings advanced
12:57 correct yes and if you're a newfangled
13:00 and using wrap Weaver eight you don't
13:02 need to go to general settings to look
13:03 at the event settings any more advanced
13:05 is right below general in the settings
13:07 on inside there there is a checkbox for
13:11 what is it degeneration engine sitemap
13:16 there we go
13:17 yeah so when you check that okay
13:20 basically what happens is rapidly really
13:23 um takes all of your pages okay all over
13:26 the pages that are I believe if correct
13:30 me if I'm wrong Gregg but if you have a
13:32 a page set to not
13:39 disabled right if you set a paper to be
13:43 out say bold um then oops hold on drop
13:48 is it oh it's oh yeah they changed it's
13:51 a draft now that's right
13:52 let used to be disabled so if you set a
13:54 page to be draft it will not show up
13:57 inside the sitemap file right so that's
14:00 important if you want to make sure that
14:01 a page is not inside your sitemap file
14:03 set this draft and it won't be in there
14:05 okay it won't be published yes and yes
14:10 exactly and so the sitemap XML file gets
14:13 created when you publish to the server
14:16 so now there is a plug-in from your head
14:21 alright our favorite makers of Stax that
14:24 is called sitemap plus and it gives you
14:28 a little bit more granular control with
14:31 with things right so if you go to
14:34 sitemap plus just looking yes it is you
14:37 can still purchase it from your head and
14:41 yeah it gives you a little more granular
14:42 control in terms of you know you can
14:44 basically manually define everything um
14:46 it has some other cool things like I use
14:49 it a lot for if you want to like
14:51 globally see like all your titles for
14:53 every single page and all of that stuff
14:55 you can kind of edit them all from one
14:57 location it's kind of a it's not the
14:59 main feature of the of that plug-in but
15:01 it's a nifty one then you can also like
15:03 set for every single page kind of like
15:06 the weight
15:06 I guess there's in sitemap there's like
15:08 some sort of weight setting I'm not
15:09 really sure like how good that really is
15:12 in terms of how search engines
15:14 differentiate that stuff like the
15:16 frequency of change I think it is like
15:18 you tell the search engine how many or
15:20 how often you expect this page to change
15:23 I don't know I'm not sure really how
15:26 helpful those things are but sitemap
15:28 plop plus is a nice addition if you want
15:33 a little bit more granular control with
15:35 your sitemap files yeah usually a lot
15:38 for that purpose of you mentioned is
15:40 basically making sure all my pages have
15:42 titles and all that kind of SEO stuff
15:45 just for loads makes these a manage all
15:47 that so definitely it's a good plugin
15:50 but to your point to sitemap helper that
15:53 I'm referring to it's very different
15:55 it's not about generating a sitemap it's
15:58 about getting it submitted to Google
16:00 automatically for you so you didn't have
16:02 to
16:03 I want to worry about going in
16:05 submitting and getting it updated it
16:07 will tell Google that you're setting up
16:09 updating it do we call it so ok because
16:12 you know now times if it's a big as well
16:14 yep - Toby yeah so it's just often there
16:20 and and you know Google will come back
16:22 and crawl your site of it at their
16:25 convenience you know of course and
16:26 there's nobody I mean it was exactly
16:28 when they'll come back right but you
16:30 know they've been so they in
16:35 come back and we better hopefully and in
16:38 a win-win sweet
16:41 so and
16:43 I bit with the sitemap files is a
16:47 wrapper Deever if you're using anything
16:49 that generates pages or content outside
16:51 of a rapidweaver page okay an example is
16:55 a CMS so for example if you're using my
16:57 total CMS blog right that generates a
17:00 kind of a virtual page right that isn't
17:03 inside rapidweaver for every single blog
17:05 post now obviously you want Google and
17:08 Bing and other search engines to index
17:10 these these blog posts as well so the
17:15 way total CMS does it is that it will
17:19 generate a sitemap for you okay and I'm
17:23 already working with Gregg so that his
17:25 his new fangled sitemap tool will handle
17:28 this for you as well so if you're using
17:31 chillydog make sure that in your using
17:33 total CMS make sure you check out where
17:35 how you can add all these new site maps
17:38 for your blog's into his tool and then
17:40 they'll get auto submitted to you know
17:43 Google and Bing if you're not using
17:45 chillydog basically you need to go into
17:47 the Google Webmaster Tools and Bing
17:49 Webmaster Tools give them the URL to the
17:52 this blog sitemap file that you can get
17:56 from the admin area you just um blog
17:58 inside the blog links lightbox well you
18:01 can copy the URL and just paste it
18:03 straight into Google or Bing right or
18:05 into Greg's newfangled tool so um say it
18:11 again Craig now so I'm really excited
18:14 about this it's you know exclusive you
18:17 won't find this anywhere else and it's
18:18 just one way I'm trying to make things
18:20 about the easier and simplify and
18:22 streamline for users yeah you know
18:24 because it is cool because you know a
18:26 lot of times even myself like I always
18:29 forget to go to you know google
18:31 webmaster tools or the Bing stuff and
18:33 like I always forget to do that so you
18:35 know anything like this tool you know if
18:37 the hosting company he just
18:39 automatically does it for you
18:40 all the better it's pretty cool now for
18:44 users that are using other CMS's
18:47 like you know pulse or go or something
18:51 else make sure that you you know if you
18:54 are concerned about these extra pay
18:57 getting indexed properly make sure that
18:59 you talk to those devs to see if it's
19:01 possible I don't know if they are I'm
19:03 not a pro at the other systems but total
19:07 CMS we got you covered so nice
19:11 I'm glad you I'm glad you brought this
19:14 up I mentioned it to me first and I'm
19:16 glad you've actually gone to the yeah
19:19 extra work and implemented something
19:22 like this because you know it's it's
19:25 really helpful purser King and you need
19:28 to know how to use you can get around
19:31 their site so that pages can be indexed
19:33 properly otherwise you know a site
19:35 Google's I'm gonna depend on links to
19:38 these pages and discover them so the
19:40 sitemap file really helps it navigate
19:42 across your site so you know probably
19:45 you as well Bravo to you as well sir
19:47 sweet thank you okay so next up I
19:51 figured while we're talking about kind
19:53 of about files that help with search
19:55 engines right there's another one other
19:57 file that I know of I think this is the
19:59 only other one that kind of is a file
20:01 that you would create on your server
20:03 that would help you with search engine
20:06 optimization and that is the rub
20:09 robots.txt file right yes now
20:14 this file you can create it manually and
20:18 if you just go to robots.txt org okay
20:21 that it kind of gives you a little
20:24 really simple it's a very simple file to
20:26 create okay and you can actually create
20:29 it inside rap Weaver if your honor I
20:30 believe it if you're in Rapid River
20:31 seven or above okay
20:34 you couldn't create a file just name it
20:36 robots.txt and then make sure the next
20:39 step so create it's at an HTML file to
20:42 the page okay HTML file name that file
20:46 robots.txt then go into the page
20:49 inspector and make sure that that file
20:51 is not is set to not use a theme at all
20:53 okay because you don't want it to
20:55 publish any of the theme stuff with it
20:57 at that point basically whatever you
21:00 publish will then get you know whatever
21:02 you add to the page will get published
21:04 into this robots.txt file so essentially
21:07 what it is is you um you have the
21:10 ability to tell search engines search
21:13 engines will automatically look for this
21:14 file at the top of your website so again
21:16 it's called robots.txt and you can tell
21:20 it if you wanted to not and disallow
21:22 them from looking at particular folders
21:24 right um you can also limit it by by
21:27 user agent so you could like you know if
21:30 you want to target just a particular
21:32 search engine you can I don't really I
21:35 think that's kind of a waste
21:36 I wouldn't recommend looking at that at
21:38 all but if you want to disallow them
21:40 from looking at particular directories
21:41 that is good okay so you know that way
21:45 you could just say disallow colon and
21:47 then you know slash the name of your
21:49 folder and search engines will attempt
21:52 not to look at that and when I say
21:54 attempt is because I'm kind of we're
21:56 kind of unsure on this I've read many
21:59 different stories on how this all kind
22:01 of functions but if you have a folder
22:04 set to be disallowed but you have a
22:06 another page on your website that Google
22:09 or search engine has indexed and it
22:12 links to a page that is in the disallow
22:14 folder that page because it's linked to
22:17 will still be indexed
22:21 is that kind of what you've heard Gregg
22:23 what do you think kind of it's no I
22:28 should say because we're not on the
22:29 inside
22:30 yeah Julie hardtail to say for sure
22:35 and you know and can depends on you
22:40 when
22:43 kind of party on that mm-hmm so I'm
22:48 hesitant to say like year said no but it
22:51 sounds logical so I would say if you're
22:54 really trying to do this you know you
22:57 know maybe add a meta tag there they
22:59 don't index that just to be ensure that
23:01 the page you're trying to avoid being
23:04 indexed is actually not indexed
23:07 my cheek might be a solid backup plan
23:09 but I should also add this robot stuff
23:13 is for well well programmed well
23:17 behaving good citizen search engines not
23:20 necessarily any search engines or
23:22 spammers or BOTS that yes don't don't
23:26 give no yeah essentially Google will
23:29 most likely respect your robots.txt file
23:32 there you know probably going to be one
23:34 of the better search engines even though
23:35 I still don't trust them
23:36 that I I do believe that Google will
23:39 trust your robots.txt file yes yes you
23:43 know there's plenty of others return you
23:44 those boxes bangers that are trying to
23:46 crawl the web searching your sites
23:49 they're not gonna care yep so that's
23:53 that's the big thing if you're gonna if
23:55 you really want to keep content
23:58 don't install Google Analytics don't
24:00 store any of those at analytics or to
24:02 add stuff no table code add a password
24:07 to your page either either use a
24:11 password directory feature built into
24:13 many control condos or bars yeah Joe
24:16 your page safe tool something like that
24:19 well you could have been you can add
24:21 this can be on a meta tag to the page or
24:24 you can follow the robots.txt but first
24:27 things first
24:28 don't this Bonnie analytics gonna pass
24:31 here at the end of it
24:31 yeah keep keep any content out of the
24:35 browser and turn the page you're
24:37 actually a user so now there is one more
24:41 level of robot stuff that you could do
24:42 and they're like Greg said there are
24:44 meta tags that you can add to the page
24:46 itself and in theory if a search engine
24:49 is good even if a page is linked to and
24:51 you have this meta tag that tells it not
24:53 to index okay it won't index that page
24:56 right so and wrap we were seven and
24:59 above makes that really easy inside the
25:02 meta tags directory for a page inside
25:05 the page inspector so if you go to your
25:08 page and then go to the page inspector
25:09 you'll see that there's two check boxes
25:11 there's an index this page and a follow
25:13 links page right check box so by default
25:16 those are checked if you uncheck those
25:19 it'll pretty much guarantee that a
25:22 search engine that is a good one will
25:26 not index that page right so that is
25:29 another layer of more granularity that
25:32 you can have by adding those meta tags
25:35 by unchecking those check boxes inside
25:37 the page inspector
25:41 drinking many guys my sneezy cool
