00:00 hey this Isaiah from your head software
00:03 today we're talking about the stacks
00:05 plugin and some of the cool features
00:07 we've added to version 5.
00:09 in this video we're going to talk about
00:12 the page stats window
00:14 it's an all new feature just this year
00:17 and uh
00:19 let's just jump right in and check out
00:21 how it works
00:22 so
00:23 I'm going to open up rapidweaver and
00:25 switch to my big View
00:30 now for years I've had questions about
00:35 how do I find out how many Stacks are on
00:39 a page
00:40 or how many images
00:43 or what types of stacks are on this page
00:47 and where are they
00:49 so
00:51 answering all these questions is
00:53 important especially as your pages get
00:55 larger
00:57 but as your pages get larger these
00:59 questions get really difficult to answer
01:03 counting everything by hand takes a long
01:05 time and it's prone to error and
01:09 finding one place where you used a
01:12 specific stack can be pretty tough
01:16 so we built the page stats window to
01:18 answer all of these questions and let's
01:21 just open it up it lives right here in
01:24 the stacks menu
01:26 page stats it's a option single quote is
01:30 the
01:31 the keyboard shortcut and I think that's
01:36 option
01:39 accent acute Accent on European
01:43 keyboards
01:45 accented goo or Frosty
01:48 um so let's just open that up and
01:53 you can see immediately it answers some
01:56 of those questions right here on the top
01:59 um How many stacks there are how many
02:01 images we're only using one partial
02:06 um
02:07 but even better than that it breaks down
02:09 all of our usage down below
02:14 so we can see you know which types of
02:17 stacks we're using and
02:20 uh the stuff that we're using most often
02:22 bubbles right to the top so we can see
02:25 like we're using seven block quotes
02:31 one of the cool things about it is it's
02:33 a floating window so that means we can
02:36 keep working on our layout
02:38 and as we do it uh
02:41 the window dynamically updates so let's
02:45 um let's duplicate this whole tab stack
02:48 here that has a bunch of stacks inside
02:50 of it
02:51 I'm just going to option drag it right
02:54 here into the same place
02:57 um
02:57 to create another one and keep your eye
03:00 on the page stats window and how it
03:03 reshuffles
03:05 so you'll notice we duplicated a whole
03:07 lot of things and
03:11 some of the items now became like block
03:14 quotes became the dominant stack that
03:19 you're using on this page so that had to
03:21 Bubble to the top
03:23 and it does it in my opinion in a pretty
03:26 cool way it animates all of these lines
03:29 changing all at once so uh I'll delete
03:32 this guy so you can see it one more time
03:37 anyway uh beyond having really cool
03:39 animations and some nice looking gauges
03:42 to look at it is actually useful as
03:46 you're building the page to keep an eye
03:48 out for how complex it's becoming
03:51 if you have tons of a really complex
03:55 stack that you know has a lot of
03:57 JavaScript interaction or
04:00 has a gradients or other things that are
04:03 kind of slow on the web then
04:07 maybe you should
04:09 yeah trim those down and not use them so
04:12 much
04:12 so it can be a good way to keep an eye
04:15 on how complex your page is getting
04:19 so that answered a lot of the questions
04:21 like
04:22 how many what kind
04:26 and you know some breakdowns like
04:29 partials and images to
04:31 but it didn't answer where and so to
04:36 answer that last question
04:39 yeah we just click on an item on the
04:42 page so if I click on block quote over
04:45 here for instance
04:49 it automatically selects all of the
04:51 block quotes on the page and so we can
04:53 just scroll through and see where those
04:55 items are
04:58 or if we want to say we want to get rid
05:02 of all the block quotes on the page
05:04 now we can just come over and hit the
05:07 delete key and they're all gone
05:10 well I'm going to command Z to bring
05:12 them back
05:15 Okay so
05:18 that's great and it even works uh in
05:21 more complex scenarios like I can click
05:24 on block quotes
05:25 and click on the paragraph stacks and
05:28 now all of those things are selected
05:30 so if I wanted to I could really delete
05:33 everything and start from scratch again
05:39 but there is one part of this that I
05:43 want to mention
05:45 uh because it helps us answer
05:49 a little bit more of a challenging
05:51 question so I'll show you the problem
05:55 um
05:56 for instance if I select on icon bar
05:59 there's only one of these on the page
06:02 and this is a pretty big page
06:04 so if I select that
06:07 well I know it's selected somewhere on
06:09 this page but
06:11 I don't know where it is
06:14 and it's not easy to find
06:17 so what we'd like to do is have stacks
06:19 scroll that right into view so just go
06:23 find that on the page for us
06:26 um
06:27 and so we added this scroll selected
06:30 Stacks into view option and
06:34 it should be turned on by default unless
06:36 you've disabled it
06:38 um
06:40 because I think it's useful most of the
06:43 time
06:45 but there are times when you might want
06:47 to disable it too
06:50 anyway let's try that again over here
06:52 let's um
06:54 go select our yeah let's select block
06:57 quotes just to get the selection
06:59 different and now let's try clicking on
07:01 icon bar
07:04 so now it Scrolls it into view and we
07:06 can see it's bright blue we should have
07:08 been able to find it but it was right
07:11 here at the very bottom and we didn't
07:13 quite scroll that far down
07:16 so
07:18 that's pretty useful
07:20 um but I should mention that uh
07:23 scrolling things into view can be a bit
07:26 disorienting when you're scrolling some
07:29 types of things so for instance if I'm
07:33 using the keyboard to navigate around
07:37 um
07:38 the arrow keys move the selection up or
07:41 down
07:42 boy it's really handy to scroll through
07:44 these tab stacks
07:48 but
07:50 this larger stack that contains all of
07:53 these things well it's a giant stack
07:55 it's
07:57 both above and below this scroll view
08:01 so we don't scroll that one into view by
08:05 default because it might
08:08 yeah scroll things when you weren't
08:10 expecting them to
08:13 um
08:15 you can play with the preference if you
08:17 want to try it both ways there are times
08:21 when I think it might be useful it
08:24 really depends a lot on
08:26 what type of stacks you're using on the
08:29 page and whether or not you use the
08:32 keyboard a lot to navigate
08:34 so
08:36 for that reason we've made this a
08:38 preference that you can enable or
08:40 disable depending on how you use stacks
08:43 and what type of thing you're building
08:49 so
08:50 that's a quick rundown of some of the
08:54 things that you could do with the page
08:56 stats window I'd encourage you to keep
08:59 playing with it there's some other
09:00 things that you can do there
09:02 and
09:04 especially go play with that scroll
09:07 Stacks into view preference
09:10 and see if you like the defaults that we
09:13 picked for you if you don't like them if
09:16 you happen to like something else
09:18 definitely send me some feedback because
09:21 I want to hear how you're using Stacks
09:23 it might be different than how I use it
09:26 or how I Envision other people use it
09:29 and that feedback really helps guide how
09:33 I add future features or
09:36 um
09:37 make things easier and more
09:41 straightforward
09:43 um
09:45 this year we've added a Discord server
09:49 um for feedback and well just for
09:52 chatting with other users
09:54 um if you're not familiar with Discord
09:56 it's a super popular new chat platform
09:59 it's free
10:01 um and the link to our server is at the
10:04 bottom of our webpage there's some great
10:07 uh
10:09 client software for the mac and for
10:13 iPhone so you can chat wherever or on
10:17 whatever platform you like and
10:20 um
10:21 yeah sign in uh tell us what you think
10:24 in the chat or there's also a forum
10:28 inside of Discord that lets you post
10:31 things more long term than chat so it's
10:33 it's got both for a man chat
10:36 so uh give us some feedback
10:39 let us know how you're using the page
10:41 stats window and especially that
10:43 scrolling preference I want to hear what
10:46 you're doing with those things
10:48 um and thanks for watching"}]
